At least, I couldn’t until I felt Griff take my hand under the table. I glanced over at him and he winked at me. I could feel heat surge through my body and my panties dampened at the sight of Griff’s handsome, confident appearance. If that was what it felt like to be at Griff’s side, I never wanted to leave. It was easy to lose myself in that fantasy when I had proof that I wasn’t as bad of an actress as I’d believed. Perhaps, I could keep this going for much longer, I thought to myself for a moment.

My dangerous thoughts were interrupted when dessert arrived.

“Oh, you got tiramisu?” I said as I glanced over at Griff’s plate. “It looks great.” I looked down at my own panna cotta regretfully.

“Would you like to try some?” Griff asked straight away. I turned to look at him and saw that he was offering me a piece of tiramisu from his own fork. The idea of being fed delicious dessert by such a sexy man made me feel weak. I couldn’t resist, so I nodded and leaned forward. Griff helped me take the bite by pushing the fork past my lips. I sealed my mouth around the tines and let the saccharine taste wash over my tongue.

“Delicious,” I whispered after I swallowed. Griff gave me a happy smile in return.

Oh no, I thought, this is bad. After all, I already had real feelings of attraction for Griff. If he carried on being so sweet and romantic, I was worried that I might actually start falling in love with him for real. I pinched the skin on my thigh and reminded myself that Griff was only acting nice and sweet for show. He was trying to convince Kelly that our relationship was real. In truth, this meant nothing to Griff. I had to remember that.

I kept reminding myself that it was all pretend throughout the rest of the evening. Eventually, the meeting came to an end and Griff escorted me back to his car with a friendly farewell to the rest of the guests. This time, I couldn’t stand the silence in the car. I felt like I had to talk or I was going to burst.

“Well, that went well, don’t you think?” I asked.

Griff kept his eyes on the road, but he nodded. “I think Kelly bought it, though that woman did seem to need an awful lot of convincing.”

“Yeah, she really did,” I remarked with a sigh. “I’m just glad it’s over.”

“You did really well,” Griff told me. “You should be very proud.” Yet, I couldn’t bring myself to feel proud. All I felt was disappointment that this fantasy wasn’t real.

Finally, Griff pulled up outside my apartment once more. This time he parked up and helped me out of the car. He took my hand gently and led me to the door. It was dizzying being in such close proximity with him again that I almost leaned in closer for more of his touch, but I caught myself at the last moment.

“Thank you again, Remy,” Griff said as we reached the door. “I really appreciate you going to such lengths for me.”

“It’s no problem,” I replied on instinct. “I’m happy to help.”

Griff smiled then and leaned in closer. I could see him going to kiss my cheek and I kind of panicked. I thought about pushing him away before I remembered that a kiss with Griff had been something I’d been fantasizing about for as long as I’d known him. In that split second, I made a stupid, rash decision. I decided to turn my head and let him kiss me on the lips instead.

As soon as his lips touched mine, I felt an explosion of fireworks erupt between us. It was like a dam had been broken and all the passion and desire I’d been hiding for over a year came bursting out. My arms wrapped around his neck while his hands grabbed my waist and pulled me closer. Our tongues ran over one another and shared their slick warmth. I was so happy in that moment that I honestly felt like I had died and gone to heaven.

Before I could stop myself, I was kissing Remy. We were getting hot and heavy on her doorstep. My hands were exploring the exquisite curves of her body as I pulled her against me. I could feel her breath on my lips and the sweetness of the wine we’d been drinking permeated the air between us.

It was a shock. I hadn’t intended to kiss Remy like this at all and yet, now that I was here, I didn’t want to pull away. I wanted to grab her tight and lift her up. I wanted to carry her upstairs to her apartment, throw her down, and fuck her until she was screaming my name. But I couldn’t. That was wrong. That was complicated. I had to stop.
