“You like this? I’m not too heavy?” My back was pressed solidly into the wall, but he was the one holding us up. I trusted him even as I fretted momentarily about his back.

“I could hold you for days. Now kiss me again.” He claimed my mouth, and I let go, decided to believe him, let us both have this. My strokes grew faster, both of us moaning. “Damn. Now, I’m the one with the quick trigger.”

“Good.” We both laughed, but the tremor running through him said he wasn’t joking, which thrilled me, making me work that much harder to get him off. I moved my free hand from his shoulder to his chest, wedging my hand between us so I could rub one of his nipples with my thumb.

“Fuck. Ambrose. Please.” His voice was all rough now, and the hint of begging did it for me big time. I was the one trapped against the wall, my hands’ range of motion limited, legs clinging to him with all I had, trusting him to keep us both upright, but I was also the one with all the power. I could make my big SEAL beg, a heady feeling, almost better than coming myself.

“You want to get off?” I was so high on him that it made my voice slightly slurred.

“Only if you do it too. Come on, baby, come with me.” Shifting, he transferred my weight more to one side so he could add his hand to mine, urging us both on.

“Oh, I love that.” I gasped, and he did too.

“God, you feel good.”

“You going to come for me?” My voice was more demanding now as my own climax sped closer, a force greater than either of us pushing me nearer to the edge.

“Hell yes.” He found my mouth for another kiss, delving deep. “Need you. Need you so much.”

“You’ve got me,” I promised with everything I had.

“Can’t…wait…please.” That did it. His please truly was the magic word because suddenly I was the one coming first, but as soon as I started shuddering, he did too. He thrust hard against my fist, sliding through my come, as he groaned. Both our fists were messy, come mingling, and I loved the dirty rightness of us coming together on multiple levels. I panted into his neck, luxuriating in the aftershocks until he slowly lowered me back down.

“God, you kill me.” Still pressing me against the wall, he kissed my forehead and both cheeks.

“Not God. Ambrose.” I chuckled and pulled him closer, mess be damned.

“Ambrose.” He nuzzled my face. “Meant it. I need you.”

“I need you too.” I gazed into his eyes, trying to convey how very much.

“I don’t like needing anyone.” Frowning, he glanced away.

“Thought you were all about teamwork?”

“That’s different.” His mouth twisted.

“Because it’s you saving the day?” I’d heard enough of his stories to know how much he loved that role, being the guy with the last-minute come-from-behind plan.

“Yeah. Guess I like playing hero too damn much.”

“You can be my hero.” I brushed my mouth across his.

“Deal. And you can be my team.” He repeated the soft kiss, a promise sealed.

“And maybe sometimes I can rescue you.” I grinned up at him, but his expression stayed serious.

“You already have.”

“Oh.” My whole body sagged, only the wall and him keeping me upright. With everything I had, I hoped I never let this man down. Whatever hoops we had to jump through to make a future happen, whatever hard talks, I knew in my bones it would be worth it.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Harley

“I could get used to this.” Sitting beside me on my bed, Ambrose leaned back against the headboard. My bed was short on style and space, but he certainly seemed content, wide smile, bare chest, sheets pooled in his lap, pizza box between us, drinks on the nightstand, and dog at the foot of the bed. He’d had emergency food for Hercules in his carrier bag, but the beast was also full of crust scraps and dozing on his back, belly on display, and seemed as comfortable as Ambrose here. My chest was warm and my head pleasantly swimmy, like I was buzzed without drinking a drop of alcohol. This was a craving I hadn’t even known I’d had, a hunger that probably dated back to even before his attack, and I could dine on his happy sighs for weeks. “Sex all afternoon, pizza for dinner, TV marathon…it’s like college without the stupidity.”

“I definitely like you older and wiser.” Chuckling, I put an arm around him. Neither of us had bothered dressing after the last round of sex. God bless the pizza delivery person who had followed instructions to drop the order at the door. And Ambrose was right. There was something fun about hanging out like we were breaking some sort of boring rules of adulting.
