“It was amazing,” she sighs, a smile on her face. “I’m really surprised I was the only volunteer, actually. Especially when he said the part about him being a god. I don’t think a lot of people took him seriously. I mean, I sure didn’t, not at first. And then when the cops came, and everyone started running, well, I figured I must be half-crazy to stay there, but—”

I hold up a hand again, the other going to my temples. How much damage has my brother done, and how has the rest of my family not come home to put him in check yet? Obviously, Remus deserves to be locked back up in the basement for these infractions.

I need more information, though. “And you say that was three days ago? So, for three consecutive days, you’ve been with my brother, and this is the first you’re seeing me awake?”

She nods wide-eyed. “He told me all about your other brothers, but he wouldn’t talk about you.”

I sneer at that. Did he worry saying my name would summon me? How has he managed to stay awake so long, though? Hearing that my brother has suddenly figured out how to keep me asleep for seventy-six hours is more than a little alarming.

Now that I think about it, of course, he made a play to get a consort. Ever since Abaddon and Kharon got theirs, he’s wanted one.

Well, I’m awake now, and it’s time to go about my usual job. Putting back into order all the things my brother has thrown into chaos.

I look at the beautiful sex-goddess of a woman, sigh, and say what must be said. “It’s time to get you back home.”

Chapter Twelve

LAUREN

I stare blankly at him. “Oh, so you’re the funny one, is that it?”

He glares down at me. “I’m being serious.”

I decide then and there that I don’t like his face. It’s more normal than Remus’s and less angular. Remus has a human face, too, but it’s like all his features have been juuuust a little stretched. His handsome jaw is just a touch too wide. His forehead angled deep. And his grin, that wild and wicked grin of his, is unnerving when he lets out his full Cheshire cat grin.

But he was my wild man. And while I don’t think he was the kind of man who could ever be tamed, in our intimate moments together, it’s like he was discovering what it felt like to genuinely connect to another person for the first time, just like I was. And it was such a powerful connection, I can’t help but be furious at this sanctimonious twin who’s suddenly taken his place—face so different—and yet body the same.

I’d been having the longest orgasm of my life, connecting on both a physical and spiritual level with Remus as he made love to me. There was nothing else to call it except making love, him clutching my cheeks, our bodies so cemented together as he demanded and I gave.

I’d never known such body-quaking pleasure could exist, especially just from penetrative sex. But it was like his shaft dragged along every spot inside me and lit me up from a thousand places at once. And watching his face when he finally gave into the pleasure I could tell he was fighting. . .

I saw the wild shock of euphoria hit as we locked gazes, bodies singing together, chests heaving as we cried out in perfect pleasure.

But then, in a flash, fear crossed his features, and his hands stiffened and went lax around me as his head spun around one-eighty. Then suddenly, a different man was on top of me, eyes wide as he immediately pulled out, even as I instinctively clenched to pull the familiar body I hadn’t finished milking back in.

That was enough of a shock, but then came Romulus’s words.

And now, he’s telling me he’s going to take me home?

I spit with all the venom inside me, “You’ll take me home over my dead body.”

Romulus stares at me incredulously. “But you can’t stay here.”

I cross my arms. “I’m not going anywhere until I talk to Remus again.”

Romulus gives me a cold stare. “He’s not here. I am. And considering all he did while I slept, I’d say it’s about time for me to clean up his mess.”

He takes a step toward me, and I dodge around the bed, getting low and holding my arms up. “I’m serious,” I growl. “I bite.” I snap my teeth at him.

Romulus stands up and stretches his neck, frowning as he feels along his collarbone. “Yes, I can see that.”

I make an angry noise. “Not like that. I hate you. I’ll bite your finger off!”

“It’ll just grow back.”

“Wha—” I scoff, at a loss for words at that. I cross my arms back over my chest. “Don’t you think you should wait until your brothers get back from vacation before you make any hasty decisions?”
