Hannah tapped a finger against her chin. "I'm not so sure about that. Let me think it over."
I blinked at her in surprise.
She burst out laughing.
I groaned and rolled my eyes. Of course, she was screwing with me. I grabbed her and hugged her.
"Of course, I'll stay. I love working here and I like you too. It'll be nice not to have to commute so much."
I sighed in relief. "Next time, don't give me a heart attack."
"I'll try to behave," she purred.
"I highly doubt that," I mumbled as my lips hovered over hers.
We kissed and she sighed against me. My body grew hot just at that sound. I was on dangerous ground. I knew that. With Hannah, I had to be careful or things might unravel in a bad way.
Chapter Twenty-One
Hannah
I'd settled into the house nicely and without too much fuss. Christian had helped me with the few boxes I brought, and Annie with decorating my room. My usually downplayed colors had taken on a noticeably pink theme in my bedroom, but she liked it better that way. Every morning when I walked out of my room, Annie threw her arms around me and told me how happy she was that I was living with them.
At first, I'd been apprehensive about the move.
Sleeping with Christian was one thing, living with him was entirely something else. I knew there was a real possibility that I might fall for him and I knew that wasn't what he wanted.
It wasn’t what I want either. I kept trying to convince myself that was true, but it was hard. How could anyone not fall for Christian? He was funny, strong, sexy, and a complete sweetheart. Just thinking about him made me smile. I quickly wiped it off of my face and glanced up as loud knocking came from my door. "Gee, I wonder who that could be?"
A giggle came from the other side. "It's Annie.”
“Oh, right.”
“Are you going to read me a story?" she asked from outside.
I opened my door and smiled at her. "I thought Daddy was reading it to you."
"He was, but I want you to come tonight." She grabbed my hand. "Come on. Daddy reads one and then you read one."
"Ah, is that how it works?"
She nodded vigorously. "Yep!"
I shook my head and smiled at her softly. Ever since I'd moved in, she hadn't wanted to be away from me. The other night she'd had a sleepover in my room and we'd stayed up watching movies, painting our nails, and trying to hunt Christian down for a makeover. He'd avoided us just in time.
“Let’s go then,” I said and we walked to her bedroom together.
Christian glanced up and grinned at me. He was still dressed in his work clothes minus the jacket, and looked pretty edible. I wanted to fan myself as I settled in. I was given my reading assignment for the night and we both read our allotted books until Annie passed out while clutching one of her bears.
"My room?" Christian asked.
"God, yes. I've been waiting all day."
Christian laughed. "Somebody has no shame."
"Shame? I want to fuck you. What's so shameful about that?"
“If you have to ask then there is no hope for you.”
I winked seductively at him which made him laugh.
We were so desperate for each other that we didn’t even make it to the bed. I got fucked standing and pushed up against the door. By the time he'd finished, I was hot and exhausted. He carried me to bed and I curled up against him. He wrapped an arm around me while I tried to catch my breath.
"I was just thinking that you keep surprising me. Honestly, it's like when I think I know everything about you then I realize I don't know a thing. You intrigue the hell out of me," he whispered in my hair.
I smiled. "I'm nothing but myself. That's it."
"It's more than that," Christian said with a shake of his head. "You're really fascinating."
I could feel my cheeks start to burn. I wasn't used to compliments being showered on me so generously. Not knowing what to say, I traced a finger over his abs and enjoyed the smoothness of his skin. "Can I ask you something?”
“Ask away,” he said lazily.
“Why is it you don't do relationships?”
He froze.
Now, I wished I had never asked as a weird silence filled the room.
Then he started speaking, "My ex-wife cheated on me with my half-brother." He laughed dryly. "My brother has always hated me and constantly wanted to get back at me because I'm my father's favorite. It's not like I can help that or even agree with my father showing favoritism, but now he's bitter about the whole thing. Anyway, Daphne up and left me and Annie for him. I thought we had something permanent and she just walked away from everything like we were both nothing. People warned me, in the beginning, she was only chasing the money, but I didn't listen."
