“Sassy do you…” I am cut-off by the nurse.

“Miss Gillum, you are in room five. I will be with you in a moment.” She turns and walks away but I swear there is a smirk on her face. Something is going on.

“Hey, Rose, I have to take this call. Go in. I will be right there.” Yep. Something is happening. Resolved to make Sassy tell me when she comes back, I open the door and almost trip.

“Nick? Oh my God! What are you doing here?” The exam room is covered in tulips and orchids. He is standing in front of the bed, jacket on and buttoned up shirt partially undone. My mouth begins to water, days of not feeling him inside of me, culminating at one time.

“Did you think I would miss the first ultrasound of my first-born child with my future wife?” How did he… wait, did he say first born? The questions I know play across my face. I have always been expressive and from the first moment we met he has been able to read me like a book with oversized letters. “That baby is not mine, Rose. I told you it wasn’t. I knew it. I felt it.”

“It’s not yours.” I repeat it once more saying it, so my mind registers it.

“No. Once you left, I looked at the camera feed from your confrontation and saw all the lies she told you.” I look up in his eyes, not sure what he is trying to say because I saw the text messages.

“I saw the messages, Nick.” He moves closer to me, grabbing one of my hands.

“You’re so fucking innocent, Petal. So honest and real. It never crossed your pure mind that those could be faked, did it?” I see the sincerity in his eyes and the determination to make me understand. He’s right though. It is not that I don’t know stuff like that could happen. It’s just I don’t think of women like her having to go to such lengths. “She cloned my phone and sent those messages to herself. I found the proof in her phone when her brother, the owner of the team, confronted her and had his security go through her phone.” That bitch.

“Wow, I just… why did she do all of this?” He chuckles and pulls me into his arms.

“I am the one man who wouldn’t fall at her feet. Her money and shit meant nothing to me, and she knew it. She was obsessed with proving I was no different and when that didn’t work, she came after you.” I feel like a fool. I tortured both of us for days for what? My own insecurities.

“I am so sorry, Nick. I should have believed you and trusted you. I just…I was so scared I wasn’t going to be enough.” I tell him, praying he can hear the truth in my words. I am splayed open now, the last of the barriers I had over me are gone. Broken and melted away forever.

“Petal, you are more than enough. You are everything to me. You and our baby are going to my life and any other kids we have. I want our life. The simple one. The one filled with love, laughter, friendship and forever. I want all of that, and I want it with you.” He drops to his knees in front of me and pulls out a box. “My Rose. My Petal. My love. My light. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?” Oh my God. Oh my God. I try to wipe the tears from my face, but it does no good. They are coming rapidly and in abundance. So, with my hand out and my heart full, I nod my head, in between laughing and crying. “Say it, Petal. I need the words baby.”

“Y-yes. Yes I-I will marry you.” When the rose shaped diamond slides on my finger, I feel at peace. He stands and pulls me into his arms, kissing me like he hasn’t been able to in the last five days. Moaning, I wrap my arms around his neck and hop into his arms, legs wrapped around his waist. His hands cup my ass and…

“Excuse me. I like porn but not one featuring my best friend.” He groans and pulls his mouth from mine. Oh my. I forgot she was here. That is when I hear the clapping and shouting behind me. Sassy is holding the phone toward us and all of my friends plus Nick’s brother is on video.

“Oh shoot,” I say burying my head in his neck. He chuckles and kisses my neck before letting me down. “Did you guys see everything?” I am so embarrassed.

“We did and we are so happy for you guys.” Summer says. She is in a swimsuit so she must be at work.
