The bracken shakes and shudders. Byrol is hacking at the vines. His muscles bunch bigger and he lets out a roar.

I scramble away, climbing the hill as fast as I can.

It’s hopeless. Torches flare in the dimming light of dusk. More Alphas have spotted us, and are coming to Byrol’s aid. “Stop her!” one cries. “She’s the Omega!”

I’m out of breath and panicking when the same magic as last time kicks in. The ground rolls beneath my feet, a mossy wave carrying me higher up the hill.

I reach the castle walls. The gate is up ahead, but it’s shut. Please, magic, open it, pleasepleaseplease…

The soldiers are tearing through the thicket, swarming up the hill behind me. I’ve almost reached the gate when one bursts out of the brush into my path.

It's Byrol again, hacking his way through the thorns. He’s bleeding from dozens of scratches. His buddies’ torch lights are coming closer.

I back up against the castle wall. Byrol stalks closer, an intimidating smirk on his face. He thinks he's caught me.

A little breeze puffs against my cheeks. Rogue has returned. Has it brought help?

I turn my head, and taste a new scent on the wind. A familiar, heady musk which makes my head spin. It’s crisp and clean, dry to the nose, like cedar wood. The king is near.

A bellowing roar blasts the magical castle gates open.

Byrol stands his ground, gripping my cloak. There’s a blur, and he’s swept away as if swatted by an invisible giant’s paw, crashing into the thicket.

An enormous shadow now stands between me and the defeated soldier. It whirls on me—a great, hooded form with glowing green eyes. Its massive shoulders bunch as it prowls closer, its outstretched hands tipped with monstrous claws.

The dry cedar scent slashes through the moonflower perfume, obliterating my panic, making it easy to breathe again. I should be running. Instead, I suck in a breath and take a step forward, into the shadow of the beast.

A growl rips out of the huge chest, making the ground vibrate.

My heart begins to race. There’s a fierce throbbing, then a hot gush between my legs. My knees give out. I collapse against the wall behind me.

Before I can fall, the cedar-scented giant sweeps me into his arms. His next growl sends bolts of desire shooting through my core.

I’ve never known lust like this before. I’m panting, trembling, burning. This heat is going to incinerate me from the inside out.

The beast’s scent washes over me like water on my parched senses. Not understanding why, I press my face against the thick fabric of his cloak and inhale, desperate for relief, drinking in the delicious smell.

“Shhh,” he murmurs in a voice barely more than a growl. “You’re safe now.”

We’re moving so quickly, the walls of the palace are a blur. But he’s holding me so carefully. So gently.

His hood reveals little more than a pool of darkness. I can’t see his face.

My rescuer carries me into a pitch-dark room and sets me back on my feet. I feel drunk. A puff of wind at my ankles unties my laces and loosens my boots until I can step out of them. Is it Rogue? The wind ruffles the hem of my skirts, almost reassuringly.

“Be gone,” the beast snaps, and Rogue disappears as if sucked into a vacuum. I’m alone with the massive Alpha.

He leans close, filling my vision. He’s so huge, he takes up all the air in the room. He dips his head, crowding me with his massive bulk, and growls. The sound makes my insides quake. A mini eruption bursts through my clit. Golden pleasure suffuses me and I clutch his shoulders to hold myself up.

The growl softens, and so do the shudders in my body. The beast’s huge paw skates over my skin. I arch into his touch.

“Exquisite,” he murmurs in his deep, dark voice. I want to curl up in his soothing tones. None of this makes sense but my logic is gone, lost to sensation. I feel sounds and hear colors. There’s a coil of desperate need building inside me, and everything in me wants to bathe in the sight and smell and taste of the beast.

“What’s happening?” I manage to whisper.

“You’re in estrus, little one.”

Estrus. Cannot compute. I need to tell him I'm human. Estrus isn’t my thing. “But—”

“Tell me your name.”

I can’t resist the command. “Rose.”

“Rose.” He sounds satisfied. “My long-awaited Omega.”

I open my mouth to deny that statement but can only manage a moan. I’m in the grip of something larger than myself, something I don’t understand.

And the only one who can help me is the beast.

SEVEN

Bestian

The ache in my groin is indescribable. My heart is pounding in my chest, my senses reeling with her sweet, slightly tangy scent. And the way her skin feels under my fingertips…
