“You still kept it a secret.”

“Because I had bigger fish to fry like dealing with the dipshit bigots in this town.”

“Are you seeing someone?” Her hard blue eyes probe me, searching for lies or anything she can latch onto and uncover. “Wait.” She gasps, shaking her head. “No. No.”

“Yep,” Cato mutters under his breath.

“Noooo. Atlas! He’s a kid!”

I rise to my feet, sending my chair skittering back behind me. My finger juts in her face as I prepare to defend this shit I have going on with Callan.

“He’s eighteen, Brie.”

“Yes! Eighteen. Oh my God. Does Jax know?”

“No,” I growl, “and I’d rather tell him myself when I’m good and ready. I don’t need you or Cato blabbing all my secrets.”

“Callan,” Brie mutters. “He’s so young, and you’re so—”

Cato cackles, and I flip him off.

“It works.” I shrug. “It really works.”

“La-la-la!” she sings. “Forget I asked. Gah. I don’t want to know the details. Is this just a fling? Convenient sex, ew, because you room together? Or something more?”

Cato perks up, obviously eager to hear the details. They can both go to hell. Right now, it’s just fun and none of their business.

It’s more than just fun…

“Oh shit,” Brie breathes, her eyes growing wide. “You really like him. Wow. This is so much to process.”

“Go process it off the clock at home. Leave me alone.”

“Fine,” she huffs. “But we’re not done. I’m going to come over for dinner one night on your day off. I need to see this in action.”

“Oooh, can I come?” Cato chirps.

“Yes,” Brie says as I growl out a, “No!”

“All I heard was yes,” Cato says before hugging Brie. “Call me later, Brie baby.”

He grabs the rest of his bags and scurries upstairs, leaving me alone with my sister, who is still gaping at me and shaking her head.

“Jax is going to lose his mind,” Brie tells me, her blond eyebrow arching high. “He can be such a grump sometimes. This is terrible timing, by the way, with the wedding coming up and all.”

“I’m sorry if my love life doesn’t adhere to everyone’s rules and schedules,” I deadpan.

“Love life?” She purses her lips, studying me. “You really do like this kid.”

“Guy, not kid.”

“Good luck changing my mind on that one.” She lets out a heavy sigh as she turns off her lamp and computer. “He’s had a rough time, Atlas. I don’t want you to…”

“Hurt him?”

She frowns and nods. “It’ll make things…messy.”

“Are you done giving me the third degree?”

“For now,” she concedes. “Ugh. Fine. Give me a hug.”

I pull her to me for a hug and kiss the top of her head. “I’m sorry I left you with our piss-poor parents. I could barely help myself, much less you.”

“They were good to me. It’s fine. I just missed you and never understood the animosity.”

“I’m not going anywhere now.”

She pulls back, her brows knitting together. “You promise?”

“I promise.”

“Even if Dad goes off on you or you break up with your baby boyfriend.”

“Well. Just changed my mind. Leaving tomorrow.”

She rolls her eyes. “I can give you crap, Atlas. It’s my job. Been doing it since I came into this world.”

“Yeah, yeah. Get the hell out of here and keep the gossip to yourself.”

As soon as she’s gone, I bury myself in work, trying like hell not to think about her blabbing my business to everyone she comes in contact with. The door to the police station opens, and I turn to see who’s going to bug me now.

This person is more than welcome.

Even if he did manage to make me pull a butt muscle.

“Hey you,” I say, rising to my feet. “Nice surprise seeing you here.”

Today is an orange day, and he looks bright, happy, and good enough to eat. His orange leather pants mold perfectly to his legs, and he’s wearing his signature Docs, this time a neon orange with blinding white laces. The top he’s wearing under the coat of mine he requisitioned is also orange. It’s made of a netted material that shows off a thin white shirt beneath it, and I can see the outline of his toned abs. When he takes off his coat, everyone will see the way the material glues itself to his perfect body.

“Fuck, Callan. You look insanely hot tonight.”

He walks over to me, a wicked grin on his lips. “Look what I got just now at the drugstore.” His nails that have since been painted orange dive into the pocket of his coat. When he pulls his hand back out, he has a few tubes of lipstick in his grip. Bright colors like purple and pink and orange.

I can’t wait to see that orange shit all over my dick. I hope it stains so every time I piss, I remember his perfect orange pillow lips wrapped around my cock.

“Come here,” I growl, gripping his jaw and angling his face up so I can see him. “Stay with me. I can arrest you. It’ll be hot.”
