Falcon’s eyes pinch together before he looks toward the door then back to me. “You’ve lost me, pretty lady. What are you talking about?”

Leaning on one hip, I narrow my eyes. “So you don’t fuck the soon-to-be-employees to see if they meet your expectations and requirements for the club?”

“The girls are Creed’s job.” He shakes his head. “And no—”

Before he can finish, I’m walking out of his office and straight down the stairs to get my belongings. Grabbing my bag, Johnny tries to talk to me, but I don’t hear a word he says as I run for the door only to be stopped by Bethany. Her smile is smug and I wonder if she had anything to do with it. I see the way she watches Creed, she wants him. It’s evident in everything she does—he just doesn’t see it.

“Why are you running, little girl?” she asks. My spine straightens.

“You haven’t won, you know that, right? He doesn’t like you the same way as me, Bethany, does it rub you the wrong way that it only took me a day to get him to notice me?” She sneers at me.

“It’s not me who’s running.” She turns fast.

“It’s not you he wants either,” I say pulling my bag up higher, getting the hell out of here.

The minute I lock the door behind me, sadness strikes. Before it was anger, at him, but now it’s sadness.

Maybe he’s the same as all the others.

Maybe I built up how I was feeling for him in my head.

Maybe all I need is a bucket of ice cream and some shitty movies, and I’ll be over him like all the other lovers I’ve had.

I hope.

But I have a feeling Creed’s a completely different ball game.

Batter up.

The ice cream didn’t work as well as I expected it to. I’ve missed two shifts and it’s been a week. Tonight was meant to be my third shift this week. I’m ignoring it, knowing soon my ass is going to be kicked out on the street if I don’t search for another job. Luckily, I was smart and saved some money, but it won’t last long. Especially with the amount of ice cream I’ve been eating.

Not once has he contacted me, not even a text to see if I’m coming back to work. That hurt my feelings more than I care to admit. Maybe it was just some fun to him. But did it mean absolutely nothing, was he just testing me to see if I’d make a good fit for his sex girls? I knew he was in charge of them, but I didn’t think he’d ever ask me to become one of them. Not that I think what they do is wrong, we all need to get by somehow, but that isn’t what I want from this life. Especially being asked by a man I was starting to have feelings for—strong ones I don’t even want.

It just shows who he is. How he’s so cavalier about it all.

Does he even care what others think? I haven’t seen any indication that he does.

A knock on my door forces me up from my couch which has been so good to me the last week. Pulling it open with a spoon dangling from my lips, and chocolate chip ice cream in my mouth, I swallow it all in one go when I see who’s standing there.

Falcon pushes past me as I stand there holding the door open. His eyes track everything in my small apartment before they come back to me.

“You’re going to be late, I suggest you change.” His head drops and it’s then I realize I’m only wearing a large shirt. It was my brother’s, he was the star of his football team. It’s my favorite shirt, my best comforter.

“I don’t have a job anymore,” I say to Falcon as his eyes find it hard to meet my own. I snap my fingers making him look up to me. He smirks, no shame in his game.

“You do, you’ve just chosen not to show up. Which I might add is pissing Creed off to no end. Not to mention making D cranky because he has to deal with him.” He laughs.

“I won’t be a whore.”

He buckles over laughing while clutching his stomach. I wait with my hands crossed over my chest for him to stand back up. When he does his smile drops just a fraction as he looks at my not-at-all-impressed face.

“If I were you, I’d never say that around the girls. They may cut you. We like to think of them as service girls, meeting other’s needs. Which I might add, you don’t need to do. You, my pretty little thing, are merely a bartender. Now if you would be so kind as to get dressed, I will accompany you to work.”
