She gasped, sucking in air, almost falling over the edge. I sat up, catching her lips with my mouth. Making us into one person.

She instantly reached for the elastic band of my gym shorts.

“No,” I rasped, stopping her hand.

“What?” she asked, taken back, trying to catch her breath.

I kissed the tip of her nose, looking deep into her eyes once again and said,

“Not here. Not now. You deserve better than this shithole. When you come from my cock, I want it to be the most romantic fucking thing you ever experience.”

And it would be.

I’d make sure of it.

Now

__________

I refused to go on like this.

“Journey, how did my favorite water get in here?” I asked, holding up the Hint bottle I pulled out of the fridge. A serious expression quickly took over my face, baffled by how this kept happening. “There’s no way this exact brand would be in here. I just told you about it yesterday.”

She babbled at me from her play saucer, answering my question I was sure.

“This makes absolutely no sense. At first, I believed this could be a coincidence that the stuff I shared with you just keeps showing up, but there’s no way I believe that now. I’m not going crazy. You can’t talk.”

“Gah!”

“I’m sorry that was rude, but you know what I mean, Little Miss.”

“Bah!”

I grabbed her from the saucer and took her into the living room. “Journey, what’s going on?” I questioned, gazing around the big open space, setting her down on the floor with some toys. “Are there cameras all around? Is someone watching us?”

“Gah!”

“Ugh!” I replied frustrated. “That’s it, I’m going in, Journey.” I pulled my hair up, tying it in a high bun on the top of my head. “You’re no help.”

“Lah!”

“I know you resent that.” I moved my way around the room, searching all the shelves, the TV stand cubbies, and book case in the corner of the room.

Nothing.

I kept coming up empty.

“I’ve been here for three months! There’s no way I wouldn’t have seen a camera by now.”

Before I lost it completely and started throwing random stuff across the room in hopes of it breaking and a camera falling out, I walked back to Journey. Looking at the array of toys and stuffed animals surrounding her, when my eyes landed on one in particular. I reached for her bunny off the floor and glared at it. The fluffy white fur ball was judging me.

I looked straight into its beady eyes. “Are you a camera? Can you see me? Because if you can, it’s really not cool that no one has told me there are cameras in this house. Not that I’ve done anything wrong, but still, I deserve to know if I’m being watched. I’d like to think I’ve earned your trust.”

Now I was getting pissed.

Really pissed.

Thinking about all the times I’d been with Journey, when it should have been her parents. All the times I dealt with Jackson, who’d only became a bigger pain in my ass in the last month. Not to mention Jagger, who didn’t speak at all.

I cleaned up after them.

I took care of them as if they were my own.

Put their needs above all else.

I’d been working sixty and seventy-hour weeks. Missing classes because most of the time I’d never make it home, staying in the guest bedroom instead. Curtis hadn’t seen me in who knows how long, I hoped he was okay.

Skyler was too pregnant to move, let alone handle the hell raisers who didn’t appreciate a damn thing in life. I was exhausted.

Beyond exhausted.

Now to learn there were cameras watching me…

Well that, that was just fucking bullshit.

So, I did what any woman would have done in my position, I let the bunny in my hands have it.

“Do you have any idea how tired I am? No, you don’t because you’re not here! You’re with your patients who are obviously more important to you than the children you’ve brought into this world!”

“Gah!”

I pointed the stuffed animal at her. “You tell him, Journey!”

She kicked her chubby legs, her face turning bright red. “Gah! Lah! Bah! Gah!”

I turned it back to me. “Exactly what she said! She needs you! Not me! YOU! So instead of recording my time with her to make sure she’s safe and taken care of, how about you actually do it yourself from time to time? I understand you’re trying to provide for them, but I haven’t met or seen you once! Not one time in three months! Do you have any idea how weird that is?! I report to Skyler, a woman who’s not even blood related to these kids, when it should be you. Where are you?!”

I spun the bunny around and unzipped the back, adamantly thinking there was a camera inside, and I was going to find it once and for all. I pulled out all the stuffing, throwing the fluff everywhere.
