Breck tamped a chuckle. “Okay. Fine. Whatever.”

“Besides…” Kai’s voice dipped sensuously. “Half the pleasure of rope tying, or in a bottom’s case, being bound, is the quiet, euphoric place it takes your mind. We can’t get there if we’re talking the whole time.”

Breck stilled, the unexpected sentiment Kai just painted erotic as hell. Clearing his throat, he rasped, “Rope models are considered bottoms?”

A grin tugged at Kai’s lips. “Yes, Breck. They are.” Something glinted in his eyes. “Do you have an aversion to being a bottom?”

God, his voice. Breck swore it dropped an octave. Trapped in his gaze, he shook his head. “No. I… was just curious.” In truth, the thought of being Kai’s bottom turned him on bigger than shit. “So I guess that would… make you… my top.”

Kai lashes dipped ever so slightly. “Yes, in a roundabout way, it would.” He canted his head curiously. “Have you ever had a top before? Or have you always been the one in charge, like you are on the court?”

Breck’s gut clenched at yet another unexpected question. “I told you… I’ve only ever been with one other guy.”

“Yes, but you never specified how.”

Breck’s heart thumped anxiously. “I tried both.”

Kai watched him. “And which position did you assume primarily?”

Breck crossed his arms. Shifted his weight. Gave a shrug. He should tell Kai that that was none of his business. But a strange, masochistic part of him was craving this exchange. He’d never been able to talk about this with anyone.

Kai’s lips quirked, as if Breck’s non-answer was confirmation—that he preferred being a bottom. But did he view that as Breck being submissive? Because he wasn’t. He wasn’t submissive. To anyone.

Or at least, he didn’t think he was.

Lifting his chin, he muttered, “I like variety.”

Kai nodded but left it at that. As if he’d gleaned all he’d wanted to know about that subject matter. “So, you consent? To me tying you up?”

Breck chewed his lip, his heart pounding, nervous excitement sending chills down his frame. And what do you know, even his dick chimed in with a vote of its own.

Yes! he could all but hear it howling. Yes, we consent! Which, of course, Breck totally did. He wanted Kai’s hands all over him again.

Only live once… Only live once…

How bizarre could it really be? He could do this. No big deal.

Exhaling a hard and determined breath, he nodded. “Yes.”

Kai smiled, propping his hands on his hips. “Excellent. Now, just so we’re clear, even though I want a quiet working environment, you can and should always speak up if you’re experiencing issues. Communication is the key to avoiding injuries. If at any point you feel pain, numbness, tingling, or anything weird at all, tell me. But at the same time, keep in mind that there are different kinds of pain. Bottom line: good pain’s good. Bad pain’s bad. Understand?”

Breck frowned. “There’s such a thing as good pain?”

Kai grinned. “You’ll understand when you feel it.”

Breck’s pulse raced apprehensively. “Sounds kinda sketch, but whatever. I’m trusting you.”

Kai chuckled. “Don’t worry. I’m proficient. I’ve been doing this for years. I promise to make it good for you. On my honor.”

Oh, God. Breck’s dick stirred even hotter. Kai needed to stop saying shit like that, or he’d be sporting a full-fledged rager before they even began.

Kai smiled. “Gotta do just one more thing.” Heading back over to his phone dock, he switched up the music to alternative R&B. It filled the room like some seductive, ethereal drug.

Breck raised a brow. Grinned puckishly. “Incense and now the sexified music? Are you trying to romance me or some shit?”

Kai laughed and strode back over. “Is that what you’d like?”

So typical of Kai to turn that back on him.

But Breck refused to be trifled with. Chuckling indignantly, he scoffed. “Hell, no. Do I look like a fucking schmooze boy to you?”

Kai’s amusement ebbed, his lips settling into a cool smirk. “Relax, your highness. The ambiance has got nothing to do with schmoozing you. Sandalwood’s renowned for its calming properties. It reduces anxiety. Alleviates worry by relaxing the central nervous system. Going by your ramrod-stiff posture, I figured you could use it.”

Ouch. Kai just checked his ass again. Talk about getting knocked down to size. Evidently, his beloved pedestal was nonexistent in Kai’s domain. Something that, oddly, Breck found both irritating and curiously tantalizing. Because it made Kai some kind of challenge? Breck wasn’t entirely sure. Whatever it was though, it kept him ever on his toes, his sights always locked on the target. The target being Kai’s elusive praise. Breck had gotten it once before. He’d get it again.

Lifting his chin, he defended his pride. “Please. Like I fucking need incense.”

Kai’s grin softened. “If you say so. Are you ready then?”

“I am.”

Nodding, Kai clipped several carabiners to the front pocket of his shorts, then moved to Breck’s back. “I’m gonna do this in parts. First, a TK.” His warm breath grazed Breck’s neck.
