Other than when she kicked him out, of course. But that was usually for his own sake. That was exactly she had done for the chemo sessions.

“What?” I asked. But I knew what she was going to say.

“You looked terrified when you saw her,” Sally said. “And then you fussed. Just a little. But you know what she says.”

“‘Fussing makes her feel like an invalid’,” I said by rote. “But Sal, she looks like hell. I was terrified. I still am,” I said, chewing the inside of my cheek. “Did you read yours yet?”

“No. And I’m not going to.”

“Yeah. Me either,” I agreed. My phone beeped. It was a text from Dev.

Got a present for you little girl.

I shivered. I had a feeling he wasn’t talking about a belated Christmas present. Although it was almost Valentine’s day…

Is it your cock in a box? I shot back, referencing one of our favorite Saturday Night Live sketches.

A GIF of a little girl giggling wickedly appeared on my screen.

You got me, he added. I shook my head. He was such a little boy. Still, knowing that he was in the mood sent a rush of blood, straight between my thighs.

Not that he was ever not in the mood around me. I could still vividly remember that time when Dev had the flu last winter. He’d been sick as a dog for days. He’d moved into the guest room for a week to keep from getting me and the baby sick.

But every time I’d brought him soup or ginger ale, or just popped in to check on him, he’d tried to get me to strip for him, or sit on various body parts. He’d sworn not to breath on me, offered to wrap his head in scarves, wear a mask ‘during’, and reminded me that my lady parts couldn’t get the flu if I took a ride on his face.

By the time he’d actually recovered, he’d hired a baby sitter and rented a hotel suite so we could have a full weekend of non stop sex. And that wasn’t even all that different than usual. With kids around, it was harder to spend hours giving each other pleasure. But somehow, my man always managed to find time to be with me, even if it was just a teenage make out session or a good, old-fashioned quickie.

I had to say, I was a fan of both.

“Jack, let us take over,” Sally said gently as we walked into the family room. It was a big house. Huge, really. Jack sized.

And considering how quickly they had popped out all those children, it was a good thing they had built big. I looked around, seeing the love in the room, the smiling faces of the children, the attention to detail in the wood work.

Watching ‘the Viking’ put on a brave face while his kids clung to his legs like he was a big, movable tree trunk… it broke my heart.

“Excuse me,” I muttered, running quickly to the bathroom as I burst into tears. I had been thinking I might be pregnant again but had been waiting to take the test. I was pretty sure now. Not that anyone with a heart wouldn’t cry about the situation, but I could usually control myself a whole lot better.

And Jack and Janet didn’t need my tears. So I cried as quietly as I could, running icy cold water and splashing my face. I took a couple of deep breaths and regained my composure.

I dried my wet cheeks and went back into the kitchen.

CHAPTER TWO

Callaway

“Happy birthday, you little corn nugget,” I cooed, bouncing our first born on my knee. I glanced at the clock., counting down the minutes. As much as I loved these precious moments, Becky was supposed to be watching the kiddo tonight so I could be alone with my woman.

With a year old baby in the house, it was challenging to get adult play time. I was nearly ready to burst. Being around Molly and not getting to have sex with her was torture. And my insanely gorgeous wife got a lot less friendly after missing sleep. Molly was always sweet. But she was a just a little bit less sweet than usual on the nights she woke up multiple times to breast feed.

Thankfully, the nugget had started sleeping through the night recently. It was almost a return to normalcy from the pre-baby days of our relationship. I loved the little nugget to the moon and back, but I loved my wife, too.

And I really, really, wanted to show her how much.

A quiet knock at the door made me want to jump up and down for joy. I already had the baby bag ready. I hurried to the door and opened it to see Becky and Whiskey standing there with very different looks on their faces. Whiskey looked resigned. He knew he would not be getting laid tonight, and that I would. I grinned at him.
