“No, I mean… we did it. Don’t you think?” I eventually ask, propping myself up on one elbow.

Caressing her cheek when she pouts once I finally slide out of her.

“We made more than just a noise,” she echoes back to me knowingly but asks me if it’s really possible to ‘know’ we’ve made a baby.

I shrug my shoulders, grinning like a maniac.

“I don’t know how I know, but I just know. Don’t you feel it?” I ask her.

Watching her whole body relax by degrees until she’s completely done with her climax.

“Oh, I think I’m gonna feel it for a few days yet,” she jokes, widening her eyes in amazement.

“I love you, May,” I blurt out.

“I’ve always loved you, but now you’re all grown up…I can really love you. Like you should be,” I explain, feeling my emotions getting a voice for the first time in my life.

I don’t even have to think about it, just saying it flows naturally.

She makes a small sound, frowning as her eyes mist up and clutching her arms around my neck as if her life depends on it. She tells me the same.

Both of us confess our true feelings with three little words.

“I love you, Brandon,” May sniffs. Her tears of joy welled up but never shed.

Keeping the same feelings I have for her inside herself. With everything already shared between us, there’s no need to waste another drop.

There’s no need for her to ever shed another tear again, except the happy ones.

“I love you, May,” I tell her again.

Savoring the words aloud makes it easier in my mind and body, now knowing that there are finally spoken words for the feelings.

Words we’ll share every chance we get from now on.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

May

Having a man like Brandon relieve me of my virginity is one thing. But having him tell me he loves me?

It completes me.

It changes me.

And it changes everything between us for the better.

Somehow we both just know he’s put a baby in me, but his desire for me doesn’t leave once he’s claimed me.

There are no more questions, no more wondering what if – no more chasing.

Just us. And we both feel it as strong as the climax he just gave me. And just as strong as the feeling of the new life he’s put inside me.

As the world slowly comes back into focus, I also become silently aware of just how quiet everything is.

The old house, the neighborhood outside.

It all feels like something we’ve both left behind already.

It really does feel like Brandon’s coming back to town was all for me.

And not just to claim me, but to keep me. To lift me up and carry me off to the new life we have waiting for us.

Neither of us says anything for a long time. From his reaction, we just bask in the afterglow of what I know is the most intense thing either of us has ever felt.

And it’s when I feel so totally calm and relaxed again, almost to the point of sleeping, that his deep voice makes me jump a little.

It’s like waking up from a dream but having the real thing right beside me.

“Can I get you anything? You want something?” Brandon asks, his face looking like it’s permanent from now on.

“I think you just gave me what I needed,” I answer him, my eyes growing wide as I puff a long breath out.

“I may never walk straight again, but I’m good,” I assure him, snuggling close as he gently hooks one of his huge arms around me.

I let out a low groan after a while, remembering everything I was supposed to do today.

Wondering, too, how a man like Brandon can be so relaxed, so in command of everything all the time.

It’s like he never has a problem in the world, and I know that he has ten times the responsibilities I do.

“What is it?” he asks, but a single glance tells him everything.

My life before this morning is still out there, waiting.

And he takes a slow breath of his own as he pulls me closer.

Both of us are fully aware that we’re too deep to avoid any of the fallout we both know is going to come from all this and our own happiness.

As if on cue, my cell chimes from somewhere on the floor. All of our clothes and most of the bedsheets are strewn about the room as if it’s just been ransacked.

“There’s no getting out of it, I guess,” Brandon murmurs, echoing my own inner thoughts.

“We could just stay in bed all day,” I counter, hoping he’ll agree.

Wishing the rest of the world could just leave us both alone forever, not just for today.

But it was never gonna be that simple.

He surprises me by agreeing, the keenest pleasure in his voice at the idea.

“And your dad can just drop in and sit in the corner while I fill you full of babies,” he half groans, spelling it out for both of us.
