I grinned.

“I have a fenced-in area over here already,” Matilda said. “I’ll lure him out with food. Then pen him in.”

We all watched her go, and try unsuccessfully to get the damn donkey to pay attention to her.

Eventually, I had to go up to the damn thing myself with the bottle, and he followed me right into the pen.

“I swear to God,” she grumbled darkly. “What is it about you for this donkey?”

I grinned and let her feed the donkey before going back to the sheriff, who’d pulled right up to the pen to watch the festivities.

“What do you know so far?” I asked him once I was beside him.

He turned and gestured toward one of the police cars.

There, I saw the two grown males from yesterday, sitting handcuffed in the back of the police car.

“Caught the tip because one of your crew members had left their phone here,” he said. “He caught them dousing the first half the building with the gasoline. Called us. We got here fast because we were already in the area because of a domestic dispute.” He scrubbed his hands down his face. “I don’t know which one of the calls was more fucked up. This one, or that one.”

“What happened with that one?” I questioned, wanting to make an educated guess.

“Girl kicked her fiancé and his son out of the house because they went and got a dog. Which she was highly allergic to. He’s pissed because he can’t afford a place to go. She’s pissed because she either kicks him out, or she can’t fuckin’ breathe. Lose-lose situation,” he admitted.

“Sounds like it,” I interjected.

“This one, though.” He jerked his head at them. “I have a feeling it’s going to give me a bigger headache.”

I grinned wickedly at that. “I can almost guarantee it. In between the shit going on here, and the woman that’s been making periodic visits to threaten Matilda, you might be getting pulled in pretty deep soon. I doubt she lets her precious babies stay in jail for long.”

“She can try,” Sunny grumbled. “But it’s a holiday weekend, and the judge already told us he wouldn’t be coming in until Tuesday morning.”

That sucked for Alan and Garth.

“I can have a friend send the video feed to you,” I said. “But I feel like, had there been any feed to send, she would’ve already done so. She barely sleeps. And I know for a fact that she keeps these sites monitored around the clock. I’ll bet there’s a blip in the system, or they completely disconnected it. But if she has anything, I’ll get it to you.”

“Thank you,” Sunny offered me his hand. “I’ll take these boys down to the station…” He paused. “I’m assuming you’re pressing charges.”

I snorted. “I am. Even if I wanted to keep them out of jail due to who they’re related to, I couldn’t. The insurance is going to go after them, and it’s easier and less of a headache if I just do it by the book.”

That, and I felt like they fuckin’ deserved it.

Nobody messed with me or mine and got away with it.

Just ask the dude that messed with Conrad.

Oh, wait. You couldn’t. Because he couldn’t talk anymore.

Bummer.

“That face you have going on there,” Matilda whispered. “Why does it look like you’re about to kill somebody?”

I turned toward her and looked down, taking in her beautiful face.

All that black, curly hair was wild and untamed from first the wild sex we’d had all night, then the ride over here without our helmets.

Speaking of which, I needed to get one for her.

The one she’d been using was Conrad’s, and it didn’t fit her well. Which was why I’d been leaving it at home. An ill-fitting helmet was almost just as bad as not wearing one at all.

“Because I am,” I answered her earlier question, reaching up and tucking a stray curl behind her ear. “They try to hurt you in any way, and that includes trying to burn your building down, that pisses me off. And, let’s just say, I get kind of stabby when I get pissed off.”

She patted my chest as she said, “Oh, dear. I already know all about your temper. Being attracted to a bad boy is tough stuff.”

I scoffed. Then tugged her toward me as I started in the direction of the building.

Time to check out the damage.

Hours later found us in a bar in the middle of the day, drinking because there was no other way to process it.

At least, there wasn’t a way to process it for Mattie.

The rest of the Gator Bait MC crew had joined us one by one, until we had them all here. Even Dutch during her lunch break.

Which led us to now, Dutch in her fineassery, staring at us in confusion.
