“Fuck, girl. You don’t know what you’re doing to me.”

Hopefully, it was the same thing that he was doing to her. He continued to hold her against him, which was lucky since he was pretty much the only thing keeping her on her feet.

After a while, he reached back and undid the hold she had on him. Then he turned her, spinning her in his arms. He drew her in tight to his body again. And she clung to him, letting him anchor her. His hand traveled down her back and over her butt.

Holy. Heck.

She wanted more.

Pulling back, she looked into his dark eyes. He stared down at her intently, his gaze filled with warmth. She smiled and he ran a finger down her cheek.

“Want a break?”

Did she? She didn’t want to stop touching him. But she was thirsty and she needed to pee. So she nodded and turned to head toward the bar.

But he snagged her around the waist, almost lifting her off the floor. A whoosh of air left her and she stiffened slightly.

“You’re safe, girl,” he told her in a low voice as he drew her out of the crowd. People parted way for him. She wondered why.

He wasn’t that scary, was he?

Sure, he was big and muscular. And more of his tattoos were showing tonight since he had a couple of buttons undone.

Was that it?

Hmm. Maybe.

She wondered where they were going, though, since the bar was in the opposite direction of where he was leading her.

He was moving toward a door with a bouncer standing in front of it. Wait, was that the same bouncer from before? The one that had taken care of that guy who’d been trying to dance with her?

“You all right?” he asked as she came to a stop.

“Uh, where are you going?” she asked. “Isn’t this a restricted area?”

“Yep, this goes up to the VIP section.” He studied her face.

“Right, which obviously we can’t go into.”

“Why not?”

“Because it’s for VIPs.”

“You don’t think I could be a VIP, girl?”

She blinked. “What? No. Are you?”

He leaned in. “My boss owns this nightclub.”

“He does? Oh, the same boss that owned that car we were in the other night?”

“Yep.”

Whoa. Okay. That was making more sense now. Obviously, his boss had a lot of money. Gray took her hand and led her toward the door again.

He was holding her hand.

She felt like a silly schoolgirl. But darn, it was nice. The bouncer gave him a respectful nod as they approached.

Maybe he managed this place for his boss.

The bouncer opened the door and Gray started walking up the stairs. She paused, tugging at his hand as she turned to the bouncer.

“Hi!”

He stared down at her in shock, then away. She didn’t let that hurt her feelings. Well, she tried not to.

“I’m Maeve.”

Still nothing. He looked over her head at Gray.

“Maeve, what are you doing?” Gray asked.

“I just wanted to say thanks for helping with that guy earlier. I mean, I think he was harmless, but it was still nice of you to step in.” She held her thumb up. “Well done. Great job. And I like your shirt. It’s very, uh, black.”

The man blinked. Stared at her some more, then looked away.

Well. That was kind of rude.

But maybe he wasn’t good at talking to people either.

Aww. She knew how that was. Sympathy filled her.

“Come on, girl. Stop hassling Brooks.”

“I wasn’t hassling him. Was I?” She followed Gray up the stairs, nearly having to run to keep up with his long legs. By the time they got to the top she was breathing heavily. “Whoa, where’s the fire?”

He stared at her for a moment. Then grabbing her around the waist, he spun her and pressed her back against the wall. He moved his hands to the wall on either side of her head.

Okay, then.

This was sexy.

She liked seeing him like this. All take-charge. It was hot. Not typically something she went for. Although that was more of a trust thing.

While she might not know him that well, she didn’t think he would hurt her.

He’d saved her. He was her hero.

“Maybe I just wanted to get you alone,” he murmured. “And all to myself. And to stop you giving other men compliments.”

“I wasn’t doing that! I was just telling him that he did a good job. And that he had a nice black shirt.”

“Shut up, girl.” It wasn’t said in a mean way.

She licked her lips. “There’s still a nightclub filled with people downstairs, we’re not exactly alone.”

“Yes, but up here, you’re all mine.”

Okay, that shouldn’t send a shiver through her. But it did.

Whoa. That was hot. And dominant. She liked that a bit too much.

Didn’t mean that he meant she was his for anything more than tonight. She wasn’t silly. It wasn’t a commitment. And just because he might like a bit of control, didn’t mean he was a Dominant. He was just obviously a guy who knew what he wanted. And wasn’t afraid to go for it.
