“Basically,” Liam said, “it could be anyone in the building.”

“Any designer in the building. At least we can rule out the sustainability officer or the customer relationship manager. Anyone who isn’t a designer works on another floor in a separate department. They’d be noticed if they were hanging around the Closet or on the floor.”

“How do you suggest we find this person, Mackenzie?” Fuller asked. “If they’re covering their tracks so someone else is blamed in their place, we have to be sure.”

I chewed my lips, picking through the shredded fabric. “This is good work, but it’s not unique. We’re all taught how to do this stitch. I’m sorry, but the only way we can know for sure we’ve got the right person is to catch them in the act.”

“We can’t,” Bane said. “People who work in the building are eyed suspiciously for being on the wrong floor. What do we say when they ask why we’re hanging around the Closet?”

Liam put up his hand. “We are several steps ahead of ourselves. The most important thing is that we know how they breached our security, and we know where to find the person responsible. Whether they’re just another hired hand or one of the brothers, will be discovered under interrogation.”

“Liam’s right. That bitch can wait a second,” Sole said. “All of you, right now need to go into your closets and rip off some snaps. Do it in the closet. They’re tracking us and that’s the only place these chips are supposed to be together.”

“Okay,” Shonda said. She took off to do as he ordered.

“Big bros,” Sunny continued. “I pretty much confirmed it, but we have to be sure. Check all your clothes, not just the Caddells. And keep track of when you ordered what. We’re up to November of last year. If that’s when this started, we can exclude anyone who left before then.” He kissed my shoulder.

My brows popped. “Oh, I have to be crossed off the suspect list?”

“You’re not on it,” Bane said. “If you did this, you wouldn’t have sliced my jacket like a ham.”

“That’s not the only reason you know I’m not behind this,” I said, outraged. “Jerks.”

They laughed—short, sharp sounds that were over quickly.

“We have an issue,” Liam said. “I’ll check my clothes, but if all the trackers are removed, they’ll know we’re onto them, and their accomplice in Caddell vanishes into the wind.”

“I know,” Sunny replied. “That’s why the sexy designer with the bee-stung lips on my left will sew them back in. We have to keep going like nothing happened. Finally, we’re a step ahead of them.”

“Are you?” Sienna asked. “You all still have your gangs to run. How can you go on like it’s business as usual while the Brotherhood continues collecting the information that’s made you vulnerable? Genny’s girls were blown up in that—” Sienna’s eyes bugged. “Oh no.”

“Genny!”

We shot up, racing out of the closet. What the fuck was wrong with us! Why did we sit in there chattering away!

“Genny wears Caddell,” I said, tripping over my feet beating Sunny to the door. “She doesn’t know about the trackers. She thinks she’s safe in her new place when she’s leading them right to her door.”

“Perfect sitting target far from the Fairfield,” Liam growled. “Where is she? Does anyone know!”

“She didn’t tell me,” Sienna said.

“No.” I shoved my shoes on, throwing myself out the door on Sunny and Bane’s heels. “But I have her number! I’ll text her. Warn her.” My phone was already out and fingers flying across the screen.

“She’s probably at Barbarella’s. She’s fine,” Bane said, though he punched the elevator button hard enough to pop it out. “Come on!”

“Guys?” Shonda skidded into the hall. “Guys, wait!”

“Not now,” Sunny barked. “Genny doesn’t know she’s walking around with a target in her jacket!”

“It’s about Genny!” We froze half in the elevator and half out. “I think it is— I hope not but it could— You just need to see this!”

She ran back inside. Our group shared a look.

“I’ll see what it is,” I said, stepping off. “You guys go to Harlow.”

I hit send on the text. “I just messaged her. She’ll know what to do as soon as she sees this. It’s alright.”

“Okay.” Bane, Sunny, and Liam said goodbye as the metal doors closed shut.

Sienna and I ran inside the penthouse calling for Shonda.

“In here,” she shouted. “Look at this.”

We burst into her room. Sole treated his employees as well as he treated his girlfriends. Shonda’s room was decked out with everything she could want—four-poster bed, plush carpet, vintage guitar collection, and a television rivaling the size of the living room big screen.

The news played on loud, drawing us to her side.

“—shock here in Harlow.” A stocky, tanned reporter stood on a street I didn’t recognize. Behind her was a horror. “An explosion in Goldie’s Tavern rocked the sleepy street this morning. Residents say the bar has been closed for years, but there is an attached apartment on the top floor.”
