“We’ve never been friends, Hazel.” I refused to let her rewrite that part of our history. “You have no idea what that word means.”

“Did you seduce him the first day he arrived? How did this happen?”

I held back a groan and clenched my fists. There was no point in explaining anything. She’d made up her mind about what she wanted to believe.

“I guess I didn’t know you had all that in you. So conniving, so backstabbing, so—”

“I’ll see you later.” I couldn’t bear to listen to her another second. “Enjoy the rest of the party.”

“You’re a two-faced, cunt bitch.” She moved past me, brushing my shoulder on her way down the hall.

I waited until I couldn’t hear the sound of her heels clacking against the floor anymore before freshening up in the bathroom and returning to the party.

For the rest of the night, I watched Tyler speak to as many people as he could, and now and then he’d mouth “Round two?” and I’d blush and pretend I didn’t understand.

The following morning, my phone buzzed repeatedly as I stepped through the doors of Rogue Publishing. Briefly shutting my eyes, I braced myself for a never-ending list of petty requests from Hazel.

I waited until there was a pause in vibrations before looking at it.

Kristin: Whatever you do, DO NOT get online today. No social media, no email, NOTHING.

Madison: Please. Just come straight to my shop.

Kristin: Are you there? Are you seeing this?

Madison: Do we need to come get you? Answer us, Chloe!

Confused, I opened my inbox and immediately regretted it.

Oh, God.

No, no, no….

Tyler Carrington Has Illegitimate Twins on the Way

Publishing Heiress is Heartbroken: Tells All

My heart dropped as I read the forwarded headlines, and when I looked up, hundreds of staff members were staring at me in the lobby.

Their stares were ice cold and hostile, so much so that I thought they were looking at someone else.

“Is it true?” Sandra stepped in front of me, thrusting a copy of Seattle Gossip into my hands. “Like, this whole time your child’s father was him and you pretended it was someone else?”

She didn’t give me a chance to answer that question.

“You’re no better than Hazel is.” She shrugged. “She cheats her way to the top with Daddy’s money, and you sleep your way there, trapping the boss. On the one hand, I’m kind of impressed. On the other hand, I had no idea I was bonding with the boss’s whore this entire time.”

I raised my hand to slap her, but my coworkers began lifting their cell-phones, anticipating my reaction.

Not saying a word, I rushed toward the emergency stairwell and took it down to the alley exit.

Flashing lights assaulted my view the moment I pushed the doors open.

“There she is!” “How far along are you with Mr. Carrington’s babies?” “How long were you sleeping with him behind Hazel Swift’s back?”

I froze, unsure of what to say or do.

“Were you sleeping with him while he was with Victoria?” “When did you meet?” “Do you honestly think this is a good look for fellow working women?”

They surrounded me, their questions roaring louder with every second, and a hand suddenly grabbed mine and pulled me through.

Dillon.

“Don’t look back and don’t say a word.” He tightened his grip on my hand. Leading me toward a town car, he flung the backdoor open and tucked me inside. Then he rushed to the driver’s seat and sped away.

His eyes met mine in the rearview mirror, full of sympathy, and he handed me a handkerchief.

Turn Around

Tyler

London, England

“When did Hazel leak this rubbish, Dillon?” I was seconds away from raging. “I want the exact time, the paper, and the reporter’s name.”

“I’ll get to the bottom of it.”

“Where’s Chloe?” I asked. “She’s not answering her phone.”

“She’s…” He sighed. “She hasn’t left her room since I picked her up from work. She’s refusing to talk to anyone.”

“Is she crying?”

“Hasn’t stopped for one second.”

“I’m cutting my trip short and flying back home within the hour,” I said. “Can you set food outside her bedroom door for me, please?”

“Absolutely.”

I ended the call, and shook my head. The press continuously coming after me was one thing, but my heart ached the moment I saw the words directed at Chloe.

I dialed Hazel’s number, but I held back on calling.

I’ll deal with her in person.

The door to my hotel suite opened and my father stepped inside.

“Leave before I have you removed.” I shut my briefcase. “I don’t have anything to say to you.”

“Not even hello?” he asked. “You came all the way back to London just for—”

“For my brother and sister,” I said. “The only children who actually believe you have their best interests at heart.”

“How many of these pregnant mistress rumors are true?”

“I wasn’t kidding about having you removed.”
