The song finishes and Closer comes on. That sexy bass vibrates through my body as I watch him split another long.

He still hasn’t seen me. Maybe because he’s so focused on the job, or maybe it’s because I’m hiding behind the house and peeking out like a Peeping Tom.

My eyes roam all over his hard muscular body. It’s perfect. A big muscular chest, massive arms, sexy round shoulders, a chiseled six-pack. He’s wearing old faded jeans with no belt. They hang low on his hips showing off the hard V carved into his pelvis and a hint of pubic hair. No underwear for Mr. Wallis, I see.

His legs look like he hikes up the mountain every day with a refrigerator on his back. They’re so muscular and thick, filling out those jeans nicely.

He bends over and grabs a log. His jeans slip down an inch, showing a little bit of ass and my breath quickens. I never thought I’d be turned on by a butt crack, but here we are. This is no middle-aged plumber butt crack though, this one is special.

God, his back is a work of art. It’s shaped like a V with hard rippling muscles that clench and tighten with every movement he makes. I can’t take my eyes off him.

He’s covered in tattoos, but it’s not too much. It’s just right. They start at his wrists and continue up his beautiful arms, finishing around his massive shoulders. The sexy tattoo continues up the left side of his neck, which I normally don’t approve of, but this man can get away with anything. He’s got the rare level of hotness where anything would suit him.

He splits another log as the sexy song slides into the chorus. My pulse races as he shoves the ax into the chopping block with a thunk and grabs the whiskey bottle on the ground beside him. He takes a long swig and I swallow hard as I watch his chest and abs clench and flex. He wipes his mouth with his wrist as the heat swirling around my core moves between my legs. It begins to throb as I get a good look at his face.

This man is stunning. A long thick brown beard with radiant blue eyes that shine like the summer sky. His hair is shaved on the sides and long on top. It’s pulled back in a man bun, which again, I normally hate, but he’s somehow pulling it off. I’m on team man bun from now on.

His intense blue eyes suddenly dart over to me. I gasp as they narrow.

“Hello,” he says in a deep booming voice as I duck behind the house in a panic.

I close my eyes and curse myself for hiding like a chicken. What’s he going to think of me now?

“Hello, Mr. Wallis,” I say, trying to project a confident tone as I step out from behind the house with my back straight. “I’m the new receptionist, Lauren Hurst.”

He watches me with those intense blue eyes as I walk over. My legs are all shaky, my voice is shaky, everything is shaky. This man has definitely thrown me off my game.

“Lauren,” he repeats under his breath as he watches me like a lion watching a baby gazelle.

I notice that he doesn’t reach for his shirt. He doesn’t seem to care that he’s half-naked. He just stands there with complete confidence, radiating authority like only a true alpha can.

My thoughts get all jumbled up the closer I get. My stomach is a wreck.

“I’m a…”

It’s like my brain stops working. Why am I here?

Oh yeah! The fire!

Shit, the fire…

I really don’t want to give this gorgeous man bad news. I don’t want to see those sexy lips turn into a frown or see those beautiful blue eyes staring back at me in disappointment.

Like a bandaid, I tell myself. Just rip it off. Give him the bad news and go from there.

“Mr. Wallis,” I say with a deep breath. “I comped the Aspen Suite.”

His eyebrows raise.

“For Mikey Reynolds,” I quickly add. “The lead reviewer for The Luxury Traveller Magazine. I got him to agree to feature us in an article for the May issue.”

He looks impressed. “How long have you been working for me?”

“Ten days,” I say with a nod. “But there’s more.”

He raises his head and I get flustered all over again. It’s really hard to focus or think clearly with this level of hotness in front of me. No wonder he’s a mountain recluse. Everyone probably turns into babbling idiots in front of him.

“You see the thing is,” I say with a nervous laugh. “I accidentally set fire to the reception area and Mr. Reynolds was watching. Videotaping actually. And it was a whole big thing, so I had to comp another guest’s stay, and there’s a lot of damage, and that review in the May issue I was talking about… It’s probably going to be a bad one.”
