He goes still. “Look at me, Courtney.”

I focus on his handsome face, and I can see the strain in his eyes as he tries to get himself under control.

“Please move.” I swivel my hips, and we both moan in unison.

He pulls out slowly, then slides back in, hitting someplace deep inside me that I didn’t even know existed until this moment.

I lift my legs and wrap them higher around his waist. I pull his mouth down to mine, grasping his hair with my hands. He groans into my mouth, and my core spasms as his thrusts speed up. Leaning back, he cups one breast and plucks my nipple, sending a shock wave through me.

“I knew you’d feel good, but I still had no idea how good,” he growls against my mouth as he pounds into me harder.

“I’m close.” My legs tighten, and my nails dig into his flesh. “I’m so close.”

I match him thrust for thrust, and we both fall over the edge at the same time, breathing into each other’s mouths as we connect in the most primal way and lose ourselves in each other. My body feels like dead weight, but I don’t let go of him. I bury my face in the crook of his neck as he settles on top of me. His heart pounds against my chest, and mine returns the favor as we try to get our breathing under control.

“You okay?” He pulls back to look down at me, and I nod. “You’re crying.” He lifts his hand and swipes my cheeks. “Did I hurt you?”

“No.” It’s not a lie. He didn’t hurt me, but what he doesn’t know is that he now has the ability to without even trying—because I’m not falling in love with him anymore, I am in love with him.

“Why are you crying?”

“I don’t know.” I blink away the tears filling my eyes. When I can see him clearly, I notice that his expression is soft and warm.

“Do you know how much you mean to me?” he asks, gently sliding his fingers down the side of my face.

I shake my head no.

“I—” he starts, but his words are cut off when someone rings the bell. “Ignore it,” he says. “Fuck,” he growls when it rings again.

“It might be important,” I say.

With a reluctant nod, he pulls out of me.

“Do not move,” he orders, tossing the sheet over me before getting up and pulling on his jeans, which he leaves unbuttoned. He kisses me swiftly before leaving the room.

I hear him in the living room, then he barks into the intercom. “What?”

“Lucas, is Maddi still here?” I hear Eva’s voice whip through the quiet apartment through the intercom.

My eyes widen, and I roll to the side of the bed, taking the sheet with me. I don’t hear his reply in my rush to grab my jeans and panties. I tug them on. I put on my bra and T-shirt. I’m running my fingers through my hair when Lucas comes back into the bedroom looking ready to commit murder.

“Is everything okay?”

“We’re going to your place,” he states.

“What?” I blink at him as he stops in front of me.

“Between your ex and mine, I choose yours. So we’re going to your place for the rest of the weekend.”

“What?” I repeat.

“Eva knew Maddi was leaving with my parents early, and what time they were going. She still came over, and I know it wasn’t to tell Maddi to have a fun trip. I know it was to try and fuck up what just happened between me and you.”

“Oh.” I look over his shoulder at the door, expecting Eva to waltz into the room any second.

“We are not going to stay here, where she can find ways to annoy me. Let’s get a shower, then head out.”

“Shower . . . ,” I breathe.

He smiles a cat-that-got-the-cream smile; then his eyes travel down my body and his smile disappears.

“You got dressed.”

“Well, I heard Eva at the door,” I explain.

He looks annoyed again. “We’ll shower at your place. I’ll pack a bag.” With that he gives me a hard kiss, then goes to his closet and pulls down a black duffel bag. I watch his shirtless back as he packs before I go and gather up my own stuff.

When it’s time to leave, we find Merida asleep on Maddi’s bed. She’s reluctant to leave her spot, probably thinking that Maddi will be back soon. Eventually, with the promise of treats, I get her off the bed and attach her leash.

We leave the building and, thankful Eva isn’t hanging around outside, catch a cab to my place, where we spend the rest of the weekend wrapped up in each other. Unfortunately, Lucas never gives me a chance to wear the bodysuit for him, not that I’m complaining.
