“Hello gorgeous!” He helped her into the boat and kissed behind her ear, “You look delicious enough to eat.”

“Thank you, you do too.”

He really did!

When they got to the mainland there was a car waiting for them. They were driving to Portland. The restaurant was called Venetia and Tristan said that every vamp he knew ate there when they were in Portland; the food was reportedly to die for.

It was a romantic little Italian place. Dim. Red and white checked table cloths. Candles on the table.

The man who seated them was in a tuxedo and spoke in English with a thick Italian accent, complimenting Tristan on how beautiful Kyla was.

The food was amazing; Kyla loved the pizza. The place was quiet. There was just one other couple, sitting at a table way on the other side. She had gorgeous long red curly hair with eyes that were so striking, like blue sapphires, that they were reminiscent of a royal vamp. Perhaps she had vamp DNA, maybe enchanted blood.

Her guy was tall, blond, and looked like a male model. They were totally into one another and paid no mind to Tristan and Kyla at all.

Tristan reached for her hand when they were served dessert, which was the most delectable-looking sky-high piece of tiramisu she’d ever seen. It had at least 8 layers and on top of a mountain of swirly frosting sat a big plump chocolate-dipped cherry that had a knot in the stem.

“I think we’re gonna have to get this packed up to go, babe,” Kyla rubbed her belly, “I’m stuffed.”

Tristan shook his head and squeezed her hand. “You don’t want your dessert with coffee in it? Who are you and what have you done with my fiancée?”

She laughed, “Uh, no. Calling me your fiancée and skipping the actual proposal won’t cut it, either.”

“Okay, then how’s this?” he asked and stood up, lifted the cherry, which was carefully camouflaging a beautiful diamond engagement ring, and put it aside.

He lifted the ring, sucked the frosting off in a very seductive way, (that mouth!) and got on bended knee.

She heard a happy-sounding gasp from the redhead at the other table.

“I want to spend my life giving you your happily ever after. Being one another’s all-we’ll-ever-need buffets. Hundreds of years, thousands of them, if we’re really lucky. Which we are. We are so lucky. I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me, Kyla?”

She burst into happy tears and nodded.

Holy Swoon, Batman!

He kissed her and it tasted like Tiramisu. The best Tiramisu ever.

“Don’t you dare rip my dress!” she breathed against his lips as he backed her into the seriously swanky hotel room in Portland, where they were spending the night.

“Get it off quick then, baby. I don’t know if I can stop myself.”

She was preserving that dress. It was the dress she got engaged in.

It was also the dress she wore the night she got pregnant with their daughter, a beautiful curly-haired cherub-faced princess with her daddy’s blue eyes and dimples.

But Tristan didn’t call their daughter princess, even though Kyla thought of her that way. He still called Kyla his princess on a daily basis.

He affectionately nicknamed their daughter his little Pixie. She was indeed little, she was sugary sweet in personality, but occasionally she was also extremely mischievous.

When Tristan and Kyla made love in that hotel room the night of their engagement they knew that conception happened because once again, Kyla’s womb felt like it was set on fire when Tristan climaxed and both of their eyes glowed when they got that sugary-sweet release.

She cried through that orgasm, tears of uninhibited joy.

“Did you know I was ovulating?” she asked later that night, snuggled into him in bed, feeling joy leak out of her eyes and emanate from her pores knowing that they’d made a baby and that she would actually survive the birth.

“Not until we got here,” he snuggled her close, “It was like you spontaneously ovulated. I guess all I had to do to get that to happen was propose.”

He was smiling huge, with dimples.

“You did good.” Kyla wrapped one arm around Tristan and kissed his chin cleft and then a dimple.

His eyes sparkled and then he flipped her to her back and moved down her body until his fangs sank beautifully into the inside of her thigh.

The End

(For now…)
