Frankie puts an arm around his shoulder. “I can vouch for how often he enjoys it. Karaoke gets more play than me,” he teases.

“That’s not true! You’re the one hooking up. I’m staying far away from men and focusing on myself. And that guy you had the other night was a screamer.” Evan playfully tickles Frankie’s side, and he jerks away, giggling.

“Not cool. You swore you’d never tell my secret.”

“About the screamer?” Hayden asks.

“No. About him being ticklish,” Evan replies.

As we watch them, I wonder if they realize how in-tune they are to each other, how close their friendship really is. And from what Gary has told me, Evan hasn’t hooked up once since he and Peter broke up.

“Did you bring your guitar?” Evan asks Frankie. “I wanna sing.”

“No!” we all say at the same time.

“I mean…we didn’t put it on the schedule.…We don’t want to cause any conflicts in timing…” Gary says.

“And on that note, I’m going to dance with my fiancé.” I tug Gary to the dance floor and pull him into my arms. “The Way You Look Tonight” comes on.

“We’re engaged.” Gary’s hands go to the nape of my neck where he plays with my hair.

“We are.”

“We proposed to each other on the same day,” he adds, and I chuckle.

“We did, Superass. Just shows how fucking smart we both are. We know a good thing when we have it.”

“And we do…have it,” he says.

Yeah, yeah…we do.

“I’ll make you happy.” I lean in and rub my cheek against his. “I can’t wait to make you happy.”

“You already do,” he replies, and it’s the perfect thing he can say. I run my hands up and down his bare back, thankful as fuck he decided on this sexy-ass outfit. Speaking of ass…my fingers trail down and I squeeze his cheeks, making Gary moan.

“Don’t get me hard! I’ve already had one wardrobe malfunction today.”

“Tell me more,” I whisper before licking the shell of his ear and feeling him tremble against me.

“Fuck…too late. Now you can’t let go of me until I calm down…either that or sneak away with me somewhere and do something about my dick.”

“I’ll do a lot of things with your dick…”

Still, neither of us moves; we just keep holding each other and dancing, enjoying this moment together.

“Evan’s a good kid. He came through for me today.”

“Yeah…Frankie too. I was freaking out, but he really calmed me down and helped me see what was important.”

Funny that it was Evan and Frankie who saved the day for us today.

We dance together through two more songs before we join our friends again. We sit in chairs, in a circle laughing and talking, with Gary on my lap.

I wrap my arms around Gary’s waist, rest my cheek against his shoulder, and look around at the people in our lives who mean the most to us…think about the lives we’ve built together, and wonder what else life has in store for us.

I spent most of my life thinking I was happy, playing the field and not truly letting anyone close. Who would have thought a fake relationship would have changed my world the way it did? But it’s something I’ll be thankful for every day.…Just as I’m thankful for all the people around us, and I know they feel the same about me.

“I think we need a toast,” Cody says. We head over to the table, and each of us gets a glass of champagne.

“To Gary and Travis.” Cody grins.

“And to friendship,” I add.

We clink our glasses together; everyone takes a drink and everything…is perfect.
