“Exactly.” I signed the credit card slip and left before Landon could continue his line of questioning.

I got back to my place in record time. When I got there, my eyes swept the lobby warily for any sign of Lily. Had I missed her? Was she on her way out? How would I deliver the message that I had for her in public? What was the socially acceptable way to say stay the fuck out before I do something we’ll both regret?

I didn’t have to worry about it. She wasn’t in the lobby, nor was she in the elevator when it arrived. That meant she could either teleport, or she was still in my penthouse. The thought of her in my space stirred emotions I didn’t want to bother identifying. Not until I was back in the shower anyway.

When I stepped out of the elevator on the top floor, I knew she was in there. I could sense her. I moved through the penthouse silently. No sign of her in the living room or the kitchen. Then I saw her. I almost wasn’t surprised when I found her in the last place she should be, stepping out of my bedroom, her movements quick and furtive. Not quick enough though.

When she saw me, she dropped the knob like it was evidence.

“I–I was just looking for the bathroom,” she stammered.

She was a beautiful liar and sneak. Guilt made her cheeks flush and her eyes wide. Her chest was rising and falling distractingly.

I stepped forward, deliberately crowding her back. Then I opened the door myself and looked in. Not a thing was out of place, but she’d disturbed it all the same. She’d disturbed me.

“I came back here to tell you to stay the fuck out of my space,” I said, almost to myself.

“I was curious,” Lily whispered, abandoning the pretense.

My hand tightened on the knob. “You should have stayed away, Lily. You really should have.”

“I couldn’t.”

Giving up the pretense, she touched my arm, carefully, lightly. Weeks of pent-up frustration were coursing through my veins. I couldn’t hold myself back anymore. I wanted her more than I’d ever wanted any other woman in my life, and she was giving me permission. Fuck all the rest.

I shoved the door open, hard. Lily jumped in surprise and took another step back.

“Oh no you don’t.” I yanked her to me, wrapping one arm around her waist so that the length of her body was imprinted against mine. I tangled my free hand in her hair and pulled her head back so that I could look down into her face. I needed to make sure she understood the rules of what she was signing up for.

“I want to fuck you,” I said, forcing all tenderness out of my voice. “But that’s all this can be. I can’t be your boyfriend.”

“Who said I want you to be?” Lily asked rebelliously. “I’ve had a lot of boyfriends, Con. You’re not exactly someone I could bring home.”

My grip tightened instinctually at the part about a lot of boyfriends. “I’m going to make you forget about all of them,” I swore, and crushed her mouth with mine.

Anger and lust made for a toxic and intoxicating combination. I backed her up into my bedroom, but instead of walking her back to my bed, I pushed her up against a wall and continued my assault on her mouth. I wanted her to know that this wasn’t going to be romantic. There wouldn’t be any candlelight and roses.

To my surprise, she didn’t try to soften the kiss. To my relief and disappointment, she didn’t push me away either and call me an asshole. Instead, she seemed to revel in the brutality, wrapping her arms around my neck and offering her willing young body up for more. She was wearing one of her older dresses, one of the drifty, diaphanous ones that sunlight cut right through. I pulled it up from the hem, pushing it up over her waist and pinning the fabric there between our bodies. She gasped when I slid my hand into her panties. She was already hot and wet, practically dripping on my fingers. Part of me wanted to push her down to the floor right now and slide myself in. She was ready.

But I wouldn’t be able to control myself. I’d jackhammer into her, and it would be over in five minutes. That didn’t work for me. If I was going to hell, I wanted to take my time getting there.

“Con,” Lily moaned when I slid a finger into her slippery, velvety box. I looked down at her while I pumped another finger in. Her eyes were heavy lidded with lust, unfocused. She still had her arms wrapped around my neck, but her fingers were loosely knit. I had a feeling that it was the pressure of my body against hers keeping her up.
