I guess…maybe…I was wrong about him a tiny, little bit.

“Better not be,” he returned gruffly. I was deep in thought while Rowdy rubbed his hand up and down my sides and kissed my cheek over and over.

“Well, I don’t think you have to worry about him anymore. Tuesday said he went back to Oklahoma, but I…I don’t know if that’s true.”

Rowdy furrowed his brows. “Why would she lie?”

“Because she killed him?”

Rowdy lifted his head, and our wide-eyed gazes locked for a long moment before we both burst into laughter. “Yo, can you imagine happy-ass Tuesday actually murking someone?”

I shrugged, not as willing to underestimate her after hearing her terrible story. “People do crazy things when backed into a corner.”

I should know.

“I guess,” Rowdy said, his voice trailing when someone started pounding on the door behind me. He pulled me away and tucked me behind him before opening it to reveal a frustrated Roc. “What did I tell you about banging on my door like you IPD?”

“Fuck is y’all doing up here?” Roc barked back. “I’ve been texting and calling you for twenty minutes!”

“Clearly, I was busy, motherfucker. What do you want?”

“The deejay backed out, and everyone we know is booked. We don’t have anyone to do the music.”

“Fuck.”

Roc and Rowdy stared at each other, silently considering their options, before a crazy one popped into my head.

“Um…” I slowly raised my hand. “I may know one.”

“Thanks again for coming.” I hugged Ruen as soon as she strolled through the doors of the shop like she owned the place. The only thing that gave her away was her looking around like she was seeing it all for the first time. “I know it’s last minute.”

It was also probably a little too soon to be asking favors, but in my defense, Ruen had been asking to see me again. At least this way, I could solve two problems with one equation.

“No problem. I’m glad you called. Rem’s been asking about you.”

I was too floored to bother hiding my surprise as I took her warm hand and squeezed. “She has?”

“Yup. I told her you were new in town and all alone,” Ruen said absently, if not a little cruelly. She was still looking around the shop. “Idlewild can be cutthroat if you’re not careful. Rem worries.”

That was…nice of her. “Where is Remedy?” I looked behind Ruen through the glass door she’d come through. “Did you bring her?” There was a car I didn’t recognize parked just outside, and I could see what looked like four figures sitting inside behind the dark tint.

Ruen shook her head, her silver drop earrings dangling with the movement. I seriously hoped those diamonds were fake, but the way they caught and owned the light, I doubted it. They had to be worth a fortune and were totally at odds with the cheap purple leather jacket she wore over her black dress, worn combat books, and sheer tights that had more holes than material. “She wanted to stay home and work on a new cake recipe.”

“I didn’t know she baked.”

Ruen pursed her lips, her full attention returning to me now. “You didn’t stick around long enough to find out.”

Mmmh…yeah, okay. So we were going there already.

Before I could apologize for ducking her, Rowdy, Golden, Roc, and Joren prowled through the employee’s door that separated the lobby from the workshop. My focus immediately zeroed in on Rowdy, but he wasn’t looking at me.

He was watching Ruen.

Jealousy struck a hot chord through me, and it was all I could do not to slap the shit out of him. I bet he liked what he saw. Why wouldn’t he?

Ruen was fucking gorgeous.

It wasn’t just her looks, though. Ruen oozed sex and confidence and had “bad bitch” written all over her—something that probably appealed to a savage like Rowdy. He was too used to walking all over women, though. He probably couldn’t even handle someone like Ruen. There was no question whether she could handle him.

I could almost picture them together, running the streets, taking what they wanted, and not caring about the destruction they left in their wake.

Ruen even had a few years on me, which meant Rowdy wouldn’t have to feel like a dirty pervert if he chose to pursue her instead.

It didn’t help that she looked amazing in her skintight dress while I looked frumpy in my work uniform. I hadn’t bothered to bring a change of clothes with me for the party since I’d had no intentions of going.

It had been four days since Rowdy declared war on my vagina, and so far, his idea of romance had been to watch me like a hawk, nitpick over everything I did, and torture me with increasingly menial tasks.

Yesterday, he had me organize his files.

When I pointed out that he had no files since Hudson handled all the paperwork, he told me to find some and shut the fuck up.
