“Be still. Don’t rock us,” Rory pleaded through pale lips.

“Rory …” Jewell took the hand she was holding to bring it to her flushed face.

“If you’re going to throw up, I’ll give you a hundred dollars if you aim for Jackal.”

“I’m not going to throw up.” She smiled, rubbing his knuckles over her pursed lips. “I’m not going to ride the Scrambler.”

“Why not? Then you have to ride the roller coaster.”

“I can’t ride that, either.” Moving his hand downward, she pressed it to her belly.

Rory’s eyes widened when she pressed his hand harder against her. “Are we having a baby?”

“We’re having a baby,” she confirmed softly.

Rory started hooping and yelling, sending the seat swinging wildly.

“Cut it out!” Max yelled in a terror-stricken voice that had everyone on the Ferris wheel laughing.

Ignoring them, Rory started kissing her. Unaware the wheel was moving again, they became lost in their own world until they were brought back to earth by the operator reaching out to unlatch their gate.

“Keep going, dude. I just found out I’m going to be a father.”

The operator didn’t care, opening it, anyway.

Jewell found herself plucked out of the seat to be twirled back and forth. Winding her arms around his neck, she hung on with all her strength.

They got off the ride together, and she didn’t think she would ever take their happiness for granted.

After a couple of minutes, Rory was finally able to calm himself down enough to move off the ride. The Predators slapped him on his back at their news.

The operator, seeing she hadn’t moved away, stared at her warily, as if expecting her to have a fit for not being able to stay on.

Jewell just gave him a shake of her head, showing she didn’t want a confrontation.

“I don’t mind getting in line again. The ride is worth the wait.”
