“Oh, I don’t know about that one,” Adrianna mutters. “Real stuck-up fucking bitch. And you’ve heard what happened to her family, right? It’s really scandalous.”

“You said I could take my pick,” Marco hisses. “Can you make this happen or not?”

Adrianna groans while my hands form fists at my sides. Seems like my friend is more than a little interested in the girl I used to be obsessed with, and he isn’t giving up that easily.

“Fine,” Adrianna spits out. “We’ll meet you at the bar on campus, at eight?”

“You got yourself a deal.” Marco shakes her hand, and she trots off, shaking her ass while he turns to face me. “You’re fucking welcome, man.”

“What the hell for?”

“Well, you scored a date with the hottest girl in the school.”

“Adrianna?” I scoff. “Been there, fucked that.”

“You have?” We keep walking, and I completely ignore Francesca when we walk past her. I can feel her watchful gaze on me, but I refuse to acknowledge it. “Damn, man, what else are you hiding?” Too much for you to ever find out, dear Marco.

I shrug. “She wasn’t that good of a fuck and turned out to be a crazy, manic bitch in the end. You know she lied to my father, saying I knocked her up?”

“What?” His mouth gapes open. “I had no fucking idea. Was it true?”

“Of fucking course not,” I mutter, running my fingers through my brown hair. “But she did it so Bruno would punish me… and it fucking worked. I never would’ve ended up at the university if it weren’t for Adrianna’s lies.”

“So why do you wanna go on a date with her?” Marco questions. “She seems like a massive bitch.”

I shrug. There’s no fucking way I’m revealing the real reason I want to go out with them – to keep an eye on Francesca. Instead, I say, “Like you said, she knows everyone. And I want to take advantage of her connections. Something tells me they’re going to be useful soon enough.”

“Got it,” Marco nods. “Still, I have to say I’m excited for tonight. Adrianna has first grade tits… But Francesca isn’t half bad either, is she?”

I remain stubbornly quiet, ignoring his question.

“You don’t mind if I get up close and personal with her, right?” Marco questions. “I got the vibe there was some kind of history between the two of you.”

“No,” I bark. “There’s nothing between us. Absolutely fucking nothing.”

“Awesome.” He checks his reflection in a frame on the wall. “Then she’s all fucking mine.”

Over my dead fucking body.

I have another class with Adrianna before we’re meeting up tonight, and I’m glad about that since I really need to talk to her about something. Once the lesson is over and our school day is done, I pull Adrianna aside. She seems awfully pleased with herself for getting my attention, but I choose to ignore that, focusing instead on the information I badly need to get out of her.

“I wanted to ask you about Leonardo,” I mutter once we’re standing in a quiet corner of the classroom.

“Oh.” Her face falls in an instant, and I can tell she’s disappointed this conversation will not be about her. “What do you want to know?”

“Well, I really know little about him,” I lie smoothly. “Since he went here before I came along. But people keep talking about him and reminding me I should probably find out more about the guy. What can you tell me about him?”

“Not much,” Adrianna mutters.

“Come on. You’re like the queen bee here. Surely you have some information?”

“He… He was really popular,” she admits reluctantly. “He disappeared this summer, before this school year started.”

“How did he disappear?”

“On a boys’ trip,” she shrugs. “You should ask your boy, Marco. He might know more than I do.”

“I’m asking you,” I grit out. “I want to know more. Was he well liked?”

She lets out a non-committal sound before shrugging. “Sure, he was popular. But people knew more than they let on. They knew he was a fucking prick, it’s just that everyone was so afraid of him and his father that nobody mentioned it.” “Right,” I mutter.

“Either way, good fucking riddance.”

Adrianna’s sharp words surprise me, and I raise my brows at her. But she doesn’t elaborate, just gives me a sly smile and winks again.

“You’re better than him, anyway. Leonardo always seemed so fucking bored when it comes to… well, you know. And I know you sure as fuck aren’t.”

My lips tighten into a line. If I were a better guy, I’d tell Adrianna we’re never getting together. There’s no goddamn way I’m giving her another chance, not after the mess she got me in. But something tells me she wouldn’t accept that very well tonight, so I keep my mouth shut and my eyes trained on anything but her painfully beautiful face.

“I’ll see you later,” I finally mutter, pulling away from her. I grab my bag and my books and make my way out of the classroom. The whole time, I feel her gaze on my back, but I refuse to acknowledge it. Let her keep fucking guessing.
