Fuck, he couldn’t.

His eyes snapped upwards, green locking with blue.

Miles lunged forward and slammed their mouths together, whimpering when Ian grabbed his nape and took over the kiss. God, it felt like it had been years since they last touched, not a week. They should never be apart, not even for a second, a whole week was too long, why is Ian so away, why are there so many clothes between their skins—

“I hate you,” Miles managed between the kisses, his voice trembling as he tried to shake off his needy thoughts. “What did you do to me? This isn’t normal.”

“I could ask you the same question,” Ian bit off before pushing Miles against the wall and shoving his tongue down his throat.

Miles moaned and tried to climb Ian’s body, wrapping his arms around him as Ian fucking devoured his mouth with deep, hungry kisses, his large hands grabbing Miles’s ass and pulling their hips close. God. Miles wanted him. He wanted.

Someone coughed and cleared their throat pointedly.

Chapter 16

Miles would have laughed if he didn’t feel like screaming in frustration. Seriously? Again?

Ian broke the kiss and pulled back.

Reluctantly, as if waking up from a dream, Miles forced his eyes open. He’d expected to see Shawn or Derek. He hadn’t expected to see them both as well as Alexander and Christian.

For a moment, there was only silence, stunned and tense.

Miles darted a sideways glance at Ian and found him fixing his tie that had somehow become loose. Had he done that? Miles couldn’t remember. Other than that, Ian’s expression was completely inscrutable, as if he hadn’t been just caught humping Miles against the wall.

His face warm, Miles clenched his shaking fingers into fists. What did it say about him that even being interrupted by four people did nothing to quell the need inside him? He wanted to be pressed against Ian. The few inches between them were driving him crazy, making him feel off-balance and unsatisfied.

Fucking hell, get a grip. There are bigger issues here than your blue balls. Like the fact that Shawn looks disturbed and, judging by Alexander’s face, this is clearly getting back to Zach.

Miles cleared his throat, painfully aware of how awkward it sounded but unable to come up with any words. What did one say in a situation like this, really? I’m sorry, guys, I totally was going to ask about his evil plans; his tongue ended up in my mouth by accident?

Right.

“Look, I…” Miles tried again, but Ian’s hand on his shoulder stopped him.

“You don’t owe them any explanation, Miles,” Ian said, his eyes cold as he glanced at the Rutledges. “We’re all adults here. We probably shouldn’t have done this in someone’s house, but people here can hardly throw stones at anyone when it comes to public scandals.”

A muscle twitched in Derek’s jaw. “All right, enough,” he bit out, stepping forward. “I’ve had enough of your thinly veiled insults toward me and my family. Why don’t you just say it as it is and leave the kid alone?”

Ian stared at him. “Pardon?”

Derek’s lips twisted. “Stop messing with his head. I don’t know how you found out that we asked Miles to keep an eye on you, but duping him is a new low, even for you.”

Miles felt like time stopped.

Or maybe it was his heart.

Slowly, Ian turned his head to look at him, his gaze searching.

It was heartbreaking, because Miles could see that Ian didn’t want to believe Derek’s words.

Miles could only look back at him, feeling guilty, desperate, and ridiculously upset. He told himself it didn’t matter. He told himself they didn’t have a future together anyway. He told himself a great many things.

It didn’t change anything. He still felt like he’d just lost something essential when he saw Ian’s expression close off, his blue eyes turning ice cold. His hand dropped from Miles’s shoulder.

Miles’s heart dropped with it.

He stood there, feeling everyone’s eyes on him. Everyone’s but Ian’s. He could almost physically feel Ian distancing himself from him and shutting him out.

Miles knew that this was a moment he would look back at and regret years from now. He knew, in his heart, that he and Ian could have been something great. The connection, the intimacy, the easy trust and companionship between them had been something special, more special than even their sexual chemistry—which said something, because Miles wasn’t even sure he would ever be attracted to another person, much less want them so much and fit with them so well.

But that was the problem, wasn’t it? He wanted Ian too much. He needed him too much. Hell, it had been just a week, but he was already a needy wreck, practically jumping Ian in public. If this continued, Ian had the potential to break his heart so thoroughly he would never recover.
