Zara shivered. He was certainly Dominant. She’d seen evidence of that firsthand several times. He could dominate her with just a look. She was almost afraid to ask. “What do they expect?”

He shrugged. “Someone rougher. Bossier. Someone who might make them get on their knees and hold their hair while demanding a blow job.”

Her breath hitched. She suddenly pictured herself on her knees in front of him, staring up at him. The idea didn’t turn her off, but she couldn’t picture Kestrel demanding such a thing.

He leaned in and kissed her lips gently before rising above her. “Little Swan, you’re killing me with your eyes.”

“Their color?”

He shook his head. “No, Little girl. It’s what I can see behind them. I sparked your curiosity. Don’t get me wrong. If you ever feel like taking my cock into your mouth, I won’t stop you, but the choice will always be yours. Because, see…I’m nice,” he teased.

She knew exactly what he meant as his finger trailed up between her breasts. She could visualize his hand gently sliding through her hair, his gaze hazy with lust, and his erection rock-hard as he forced himself to stay still for her to explore. If that’s what he meant by being a nice guy, she wouldn’t complain.

“So, you haven’t had sex with anyone recently?” She was still probing for information to help her understand.

He shook his head. “I hate to compare what I’ve dealt with to what you’ve faced. There is no comparison. But there are similarities. Any time I walked into a bar or club, women swarmed me. Most of them just wanted a notch in their bedpost, the bragging rights that they’d slept with someone in uniform.”

She chuckled. “So, you felt objectified like me.”

“Yes, but like I said, no comparison. I would never make light of your situation. I’m significantly larger, and I could take someone down with one hand if I needed to. Being objectified as a man means shrugging off pawing women when they try to rub against me. I’m well aware it’s far scarier if you’re the woman on the receiving end of unwanted attention. And, Zara, I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with that all these years. I’m sure it’s unnerving and maddening at best, scary and unsafe at other times.”

She gave a slow nod. He understood.

He drew in a breath. “The truth is, I realized years ago that having sex with women who didn’t mean anything to me was a waste of my time. Once I understood I was a Daddy, I knew I would wait until I found the perfect Little girl before I took someone else to my bed. Until now, I had never met her. None of them were you.”

Her heart rate picked up the pace as he held her gaze with every bit of sincerity.

“It’s happening so fast,” she murmured.

“It feels right, and I know you feel it, too. But, Little Swan, I would never pressure you. If you’re not ready, we won’t have sex.” His voice was strong. His gaze insistent.

“Because you’re nice.”

One corner of his lips lifted in a half-smile. “Because I’m nice, Little girl.”

“Well, it turns out I like nice guys.” She spread her fingers and let them glide all over his chest, learning his hard lines and edges, the way his muscles flexed under her touch. When she slid the tips of her fingers over the tattoo under his left arm, she leaned in closer to read it. “What does it say, Daddy?”

He glanced down at the words. “God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, courage to change things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

“That’s so…nice,” she whispered, unable to come up with something else.

He chuckled. “See? Nice.” He dropped his hands on either side of her and leaned in closer. “It’s pretty applicable, I think. We’ve had a tough road to get to each other. I wouldn’t change the path that brought me to you. Now that we’re together, we’ll make our own future. I’m smart enough to know this is the real deal. I’m yours, Little Swan. And you’re mine.”

She smiled. Her heart felt so full. “I guess there’s no denying it. We should probably accept the truth and make it official.”

He leaned over to kiss her. “If you’re ready, Little Swan,” he murmured against her lips.

“I’m ready, Daddy.” Her life was upside down and inside out right now. She was on the run from human traffickers. There was no guarantee she would ever be safe. She couldn’t predict the future. But, for now, for today, she felt the safest she’d felt in many years. She was in her Daddy’s arms. It felt right. No matter what happened tomorrow or the next day or next week or next year, she wanted Kestrel to have claimed her virginity this night.
