“We’ll make it great,” Arvo said with determination in his voice. “All we have to do is eliminate our threats.”

I grinded my teeth slightly, wishing we didn’t have to fill the school’s hallways with blood to get the respect that we deserved. My hand was constantly forced, and I had to toe a line of being merciful and firm.

“That list is getting long,” I muttered as I rested my back against the wall, trying to relax. I wasn’t going to tell Arvo that I was tense, though. He would send me off with the Holland twins again, thinking that would fix everything.

Arvo ran off sex and violence. He didn’t need much more than that to sustain himself, which was why he was so feared. He didn’t get attached to people. He swore himself to Biba, but he also discarded her like trash. He detached that quickly.

Meanwhile, I was having far more trouble. It wasn’t like I frequently got attached to people. I couldn’t trust people enough for that, but it took me a little more time to toss someone aside than Arvo.

“Maybe we should grow our power,” Arvo suggested as he lifted his eyebrows.

“What do you mean?” I asked him, wondering what he was getting at.

“You know Sebastian and Vince?” Arvo asked me as he glanced over at me.

I nodded, faintly recognizing the names. They were some of the freshmen that we had recruited this year. They already made an impact on their class, luring girls and respect from their peers. They were on the right path to the top by King standards.

“I think we should make them Kings at the end of the term,” Arvo told me. “We need more power on our side and four Kings are more dangerous than two Kings.”

I looked away from Arvo, unsure of what to think about that. Even if Sol was a traitor, the thought of replacing him made my stomach tighten uncomfortably. So many things were changing. People who I knew and used to trust were being removed from my life, while people I didn’t know anything about were taking their places. It felt unnatural.

“Are you sure they’re ready for that? Can we trust them, especially now with everything going on?” I asked him.

“Look, we can’t put our heads down and do nothing. We have things to do,” Arvo scoffed at me, not looking impressed by my cautious nature. “Besides, I’ve been training them for leadership. They’re ready.”

I kept myself from rolling my eyes. I didn’t feel like arguing with Arvo. Honestly, I didn’t care to be around him all that much lately because he was so manic with his plans. Every time I turned around, he was instigating. I admired ambition, but I felt like I had to babysit Arvo to keep him from doing anything too destructive.

“Alright. Arrange a meeting,” I told him, wanting to meet Sebastian and Vince to make sure they weren’t complete morons. I wasn’t going to let some freshies destroy the Kings’ legacy and reputation around here. I was already fighting hard to maintain our hold on the academy.

“Will do,” Arvo said, before turning to his girl and whispering something in her ear that made her flush and giggle.

“We should go back to your room,” Poppy murmured near my ear as she wrapped her arm around my waist.

Erin faced me, pressing her chest against mine as she ran her hand up my side.

“Don’t let Arvo have all the fun,” she purred.

I glanced over to see Arvo and his girl fervently making out. He had her pressed against the wall, holding her leg around his waist. They might as well have shed their clothes and start fucking in front of everyone. Arvo had no shame.

“Feel free to have fun with him,” I replied as I stared over Erin’s head, my eyes sweeping the courtyard. I still hadn’t seen Biba yet. Where was she? She wasn’t the type to miss so many classes, and the fact that no one had heard anything from her concerned me. It also wasn’t like her to just disappear without a word.

Erin and Poppy exchanged a confused look with each other before focusing back on me.

“We want to have fun with you,” Poppy said before lifting up on her toes to kiss the sensitive spot behind my ear. Erin leaned forward to kiss me.

I kissed her back, but I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. I just couldn’t find any enjoyment in it anymore. Her lips felt like an invading force, and I had to force a weak laugh as I shrugged them off.

“I’ve got some business to take care of,” I lied. I didn’t have anything to do right now, but I would rather do nothing than entertain the needy Holland twins. All they cared about was that I was powerful. They loved to hang on my arms, making other girls jealous. I didn’t care for their childishness, but I didn’t want to deal with the drama of sending them away again.
