I strode into the King’s Hall to find Arvo on his throne, tilting back a glass of aged whiskey. I grabbed the glass and tossed it to the side, hearing it shatter on the stone floor.

“Did you know Biba was kidnapped by our fathers?” I asked him.

The side of Arvo’s mouth curled up in an amused manner. He licked his top lip, savoring the lingering taste of whiskey.

“Maybe,” he said slyly.

I curled my fingers into tight fists, and the thought of knocking my fist against his jaw crossed my mind. He was always a step ahead of me, going behind my back and lying right to my face. Everyone was lying to me and betraying me lately, and I was sick of dealing with the bullshit that followed. I was sick of everything.

“Why? Why kidnap her?” I demanded to know the answer.

“Because she’s a damn thorn in our side! She’s a Quinn,” Arvo reminded me as he got to his feet. “And we can use her to find out information about Schmidt and that key.”

“Biba isn’t going to say anything. There’s no guarantee that she even knows anything,” I replied as I shook my head. I led the Kings, so why was I the one left out of this plan? I could’ve talked some sense into these morons.

Arvo laughed at me.

“Do you hear yourself? You’re so hooked on her that you can’t even see straight.” He smirked at me. “It’s pathetic.”

“What’s pathetic is the fact that you think you can hide things from me,” I snapped as I narrowed my eyes at him. He thought he was so sly, but the truth always revealed itself. I didn’t expect it to come in the form of a phone call with my father, but now I knew what problem I had to fix.

“Zephyr, your head hasn’t been in the game since you met Biba. Once you got a taste of her, you forgot how to be a King. You don’t have the balls for it,” Arvo replied as he took a threatening step toward me. “So, don’t act like anyone but you is pathetic.”

I let out a sharp breath through my nose, anger surging through me. He had so much nerve to say those things to me. Maybe Biba got under my skin, but I still led the Kings to the best of my ability. I tried to be firm but fair. I refused to be cruel like Arvo and his father, and if that made me pathetic, then so be it.

“We’ll get all of the information we need from Schmidt. Biba needs to be let go,” I told him firmly. I was tired of playing these games, and I knew that Arvo wanted Biba to be kidnapped mostly for kicks instead of getting information from her.

“You don’t get to make orders anymore,” Arvo said, walking forward until we were only a foot apart. Our eyes locked intensely, and neither of us was backing down. “It’s obvious only one of us should lead the Kings.”

I laughed in disbelief. Did he really think that he was fit to lead? He was borderline psychotic like his father, taking pleasure in the pain and downfall of others. All he wanted was power. He didn’t care to run the school with fairness and intelligence.

“You’ve got to be joking. You think that you can lead the Kings?” I scoffed in his face.

A cold smile crossed Arvo’s face.

“I can do anything I want. I’ve got the stomach for it, unlike you,” he replied evenly. “That’s why Gail and Amelia are dead, and I’m working on taking out the others.”

A cold sensation broke out throughout my body, freezing me all over. My chest grew tight as I took a step back from him, reeling in confusion and shock. He killed Gail and Amelia. He was the killer that threatened Biba time and time again.

Even if it shocked me, it made sense. Arvo had the cold heart of a killer, and he had the ambition to get the job done. I hadn’t ever seen anything make him uneasy. He didn’t have empathy or even sympathy, and that made him dangerous.

“Maybe I won’t have my father kill Biba. I think I’ll turn her into my submissive little whore and toss her off a cliff when she’s all used up and broken.” Arvo smirked with a wicked look on his face. He meant each and every word that he spoke, and every single one of them dripped with pure evil.

My anger spilled over. I lunged at Arvo, grabbing his arms and trying to throw him to the ground. In that moment, all I wanted to do was kill him. He wouldn’t dare touch Biba.

Arvo suddenly kneed me in the stomach, knocking the breath out of me and loosening my grip on his arms. He easily slipped out of my hands and struck me in the face with a heavy punch, sending me stumbling to the side.
