Besides, his and Chad’s paradise had carried over into their real everyday lives, fueling the rush of Ducky’s move. Every single free minute they had was spent together. Four days ago, they were a melodramatic display at the airport, stalling until the last possible moment before Chad had to tear himself away or miss his flight to California, to make his new position at Wilder permanent. Ducky may or may not have shed a tear or two as he watched Chad take off in a full run toward his gate. He’d missed him with all the same flair and drama of a Shakespearean play until Chad came back home to him.

Ducky wasn’t moving into Chad’s second bedroom. Those plans had been scrubbed when they landed back on Texas soil from Hawaii. The reality of two separate beds lasted as long as it took for Chad to drive Ducky home from the airport. He made it halfway back to his north Dallas condo before doing a U-turn and coming back to Ducky’s place where he’d stayed the night.

When Ducky had opened his front door, Chad had sweetly declared he’d spent too many years convinced he couldn’t have what he wanted. Now that they were a couple, Ducky had a lot of making up to do. Chad’s logic was faulty, and one-sided, but he found himself in complete agreement.

“What’re you thinking about?” Chad asked. Ducky tuned back into what they were doing, maneuvering through the side entrance of the building to the service elevator entrance that opened for them. When it came to Chad, his tunnel vision was truly a problem. At least this time, he hadn’t walked into oncoming traffic. “I swear your workout pheromones give off a come-fuck-me scent. It’s been a little over a month and that blush still does it for me. I’m so screwed.”

Chad’s head hit the side of the elevator wall and he closed his eyes, still holding the edge of the desk. He said those things all the time, making Ducky feel loved and cherished. “Stop. It’s not the time.”

“So you say,” Chad countered.

“I think yours and Greer’s problem is more about the difference of living on the south side versus north side of Dallas.” Ducky made the comment on purpose, just to get under Chad’s skin, change the direction of the current conversation.

It was an ongoing disagreement over which side of the metroplex was superior. Ducky was firm in his South Dallas ways, only ever consenting to move this far north because of Chad. It seemed a sacrifice for Ducky in both attitude and the intense traffic.

“Omigod, buzzkill. Not the wealthy versus poor thing again.” The diversion seemed to work. Chad stood to his full height, ready to defend his lands.

The elevator dinged, signaling they’d reached their floor. The doors opened as Ducky hoisted up his end of the desk again and started out. Luckily, Chad’s place wasn’t too far down the hall from the service elevator. “I wasn’t talking about class structure. I was talking about helping your neighbors. We’re better at it down there.”

The gauntlet was officially thrown.

Chad’s shocked outrage had him pushing against Ducky a little faster than he’d like to walk with such a heavy load. “We help our neighbors up here. You’re a money snob, Ducky. I can’t believe you think so little of where I grew up.”

Normally Ducky could hold his laughter a bit longer when Chad’s back unjustifiably bowed up, but Dallas appeared in Chad’s front doorway, jumping out of the way, holding the door open to help Ducky navigate inside.

“What’s so funny?” Dallas asked.

“Listening to Chad defend himself as a rich kid,” Ducky explained and laughed harder as Chad’s petulance increased.

Instead of taking the desk to the spare bedroom, now an office for the both of them, Chad stopped in the living room, just off the entry, dumping the desk there. Chad stalked around the edge, his menacing stare made Ducky hold his ground, eager for whatever was about to happen.

“I’m gonna fuck you over this desk for that comment,” Chad whispered only for his ears to hear, grabbing him by the hips, tugging him flush against his hard body. “You just think you like it hard. I’m going to show you what a rich kid can do.”

“Promise?” Ducky challenged. Yeah, he definitely wanted Chad to follow through on his vow.

“Do they know we can hear them?” Greer asked, strolling past him and Chad on his way to the front door.

On the descent for a kiss, mere inches from Ducky’s mouth, Chad stopped and announced boldly, “I don’t care if they can hear because it’s gonna happen. Fact.” Chad’s smiling lips met his.

“Video it,” Greer called out, not sounding shocked in the least. “I promise you’ll love watching it just as much later.”

“Greer, that’s my little brother,” Dallas said defensively, almost angrily, as he followed Greer out the door. Neither his brother nor brother-in-law bothered with shutting it behind them, probably for fear Chad planned to execute his promise once they were alone.
