Hell, she’s probably with him because I shot off my big mouth and told her to stay away.

I shouldn’t have said jack shit.

If there’s one thing Carina enjoys, it’s being contrary.

Especially when it comes to me.

If I say up, she’ll insist it’s down all day long.

If I say black, she’ll claim it’s white.

When she waltzed through the door with Justin in tow, I told myself that I’d keep my distance.

But it’s difficult.

So fucking difficult to see her with other guys.

Especially when all I want to do is get my hands on her.

I take another pull from my bottle as Justin drags her close. I have to flex my fingers and crack the bones in my neck to relieve a little bit of the built-up pressure so I don’t end up blowing a gasket. It takes every ounce of self-restraint not to haul ass over there and punch that motherfucker in the face.

That guy isn’t anywhere near good enough for Carina.

I’ve been friends with Demi Richards since sophomore year. She dated him for a while earlier in the semester and caught him getting a BJ at a party. Needless to say, their relationship came to an abrupt halt. It wasn’t long after that the pretty soccer player started dating Rowan Michaels, her father’s star QB.

He’s a pretty good dude.

Even though he plays football, we’ve always been friends.

We lived on the same dorm floor freshman year.

“I hate to break it to you, but if you’re looking to get laid tonight, that expression isn’t gonna cut it,” Colby McNichols says. “You’re scaring away all the honeys.”

With a snort, I take another swallow. Any attempt on my part to drown my sorrows isn’t working. I’m still pissed off. “Who said I was looking to get laid?”

He grins and his dimples wink and flash. The girl standing a couple feet away from us gasps. If I had to guess, I’d say her panties just got incinerated.

I roll my eyes.

They don’t call him the baby-faced assassin for nothing.

I’ve never seen anyone get as much pussy as Colby.

He’s the pied piper of it.

One flash of his dimples and chicks fall right onto their backs and spread their legs wide, no questions asked.

Does he take advantage of his boyish charm?

Every chance he gets.

And why shouldn’t he?

He’s been single since I’ve known him. It’s doubtful he’ll ever jump into a relationship. If there were a competition for biggest player on campus, this guy would win the award hands down.

When Colby flashes a charming smile in her direction, both dimples on display, she just about swoons.

“You’re really fucking shameless, you know that, right?”

His smile widens as he lifts the beer to his lips and takes a long swig. “Gotta give the fans what they want.”

“Unbelievable,” I mutter.

“Hey.”

I glance at Bridger. He tugs the ballcap lower so you can barely make out the upper portion of his face.

“What’s up with you? You look like you’re incognito.” As soon as the question flies out of my mouth, I remember the texts that have been popping up on the university message system that gets pushed out to all Western students and staff. The last time it happened, he got his butt chewed out by the chancellor who also happens to be his father.

He was in a shit mood for days afterward.

Bridger has always been a private person. Until that happened, I never realized what a dick his father was. He’s quietly asked a few tech-savvy friends to look into the issue. So far, none of them have been able to figure out who’s hacking into the system and broadcasting his personal life all over campus. A message turns up every week like clockwork. I feel bad for the guy. It’s a crap situation.

His lips thin, wilting at the corners. “Yeah, something like that.”

“Sorry, dude. I wasn’t thinking.”

He shrugs off the apology before glancing around the party that is now in full swing. I get the feeling that he’s assessing each person as a potential suspect.

I do the same, searching each face to see if they’re staring in our direction. “You think they could actually be here right now?”

“Not sure. That’s what I’m hoping to figure out before another message pops up.”

“Any idea who it might be?”

He flicks a steely gaze to mine. The look in his eyes is one that I’ve only seen on the ice when we’re playing conference rivals. “I have a few theories.”

“Care to share?”

“Not until I have more evidence.”

“Sounds like you’ve got a real Scooby Doo mystery on your hands,” Colby cuts in.

Bridger elbows him in the ribs.

Hard.

That’s all it takes for Colby to dissolve into laughter.

Hayes sidles up to the group along with Maverick McKinnon.

“Save that shit for the ice,” Hayes says.

“More like save it for Garret Akeman,” Maverick adds. “That guy is such a dick.”

“Seems to be the general consensus,” I agree.
