My eyes go big as I take the phone from my back pocket, pressing on the side button. “Was it this?” Turning to show her the picture, her fingers graze mine as she grabs the phone from me.

“Oh my God,” she whispers as she looks at my new screen saver. “Is this your screen saver?”

“Yeah.” I smile, looking down at the picture. “It was from the last New Year’s Eve party.”

“We ended up being the only two single people there.” She smiles. “Minus Vivienne, who decided she was going to spend the night in her hotel room ordering everything on the menu while she watched Notting Hill and The Holiday.”

I throw my head back and laugh. “She went online and wanted to trade places with someone in London.”

Julia’s laughter now comes out, and she throws her head back. “Oh my God, and then your father found out that the guy lived with his parents.”

“She was going to trade the brownstone in New York for a one-bedroom cottage in the middle of fucking nowhere.” I shake my head.

“He was a sheep farmer. He lived in the barn.” She laughs continuously and I see the tears in her eyes from laughing so much. I can’t help but stare at her when she stops laughing, she uses her thumb to wipe away the tears. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

My hand comes up to touch her face. “You are always beautiful, but when you laugh.” I smile. “You are even more beautiful.” I hold her chin in my hand, closing the distance between us. “The only tears I want to see coming from your eyes are happy tears.”

“Yeah,” she says softly. “Well, I have a meeting with the lawyer tomorrow.”

I gasp out, “You never told me.”

“Because I didn’t want you to have to do whatever it is that you were going to do.” She flails her hands in the air.

That’s why she’s been so quiet. “I’m going to call out of work,” I say, shaking my head.

“No,” she snaps. “I refuse to have your life revolving around this.” Her head shakes side to side. “It’s not even a formal meeting. It’s to go over things that can happen or will happen. I think he wants to hire a private detective.” She looks down at her hands. “I have no idea what this is even going to cost.” I know if I say now she doesn’t have to worry about it, she will only fight with me. So instead, I keep it to myself, for now. “But it is what it is and I can’t change what is going to happen.” I can see when she puts on a brave face. I know the exact moment it happens. She lifts her hands to hold my face. “Now, can I feed my man so then he can have the strength to do the nasty with me?” She laughs, trying to change the tone, and I let her do it.

“Why don’t we do the nasty now and then I can eat?” I bite her lower lip. “Even better, I think I want to have my dessert before my main meal.” My hands go to the top of her yoga pants as I rip them off her. She’s wearing lace panties and I pull her to the edge of the counter, rubbing up the middle part. “Just like I like it.” I squat down, pushing the material to the side. “Wet.”

CHAPTER 33

Julia

I feel little kisses on my neck. “Baby,” he whispers and I sink more into the pillow. “Baby,” he tries again. I lie in the middle of the bed on my stomach, where he left me about fifteen minutes ago. I was going to get out of bed, but I closed my eyes for one second and fell back asleep.

“Hmm,” I moan as he sits on the bed next to me, on top of the covers. I feel him bend his head as he rubs his nose along my jawline. Even now, after I’ve been with him over two weeks, seen him naked seventy-five percent of that time. Had sex in so many different positions, had him slide his hand in mine. Kiss me softly more times than I can count, yet every single time he touches me, my stomach gets all these flutters. All. The. Freaking. Time.

“I made you coffee,” he says as he trails kisses down my jaw.

“Well, considering your dumb alarm woke me up,” I mumble, not ready to stop him from giving me butterfly kisses.

“I thought my face between your legs was forgiveness enough,” he teases, right before he kisses my neck.

I smile. “That definitely helped.” Turning to my side, his arms drape across me. “Morning.” He kisses my lips softly right before I sit up, holding the covers to my naked chest. “What time do you have to leave?”
