We hadn’t talked much about our future, but in that moment, I realized something huge; even though Milan had questions and uncertainty, he trusted that we would make it work. He knew that we would spend it together, and that was enough for him. He wanted to seal our bond, and anything after that was just details. I felt the same way, though I had given things a lot of thought.

“First of all, if you think I’m going to trust any other fucker on this planet to be your partner and protect you, you’re nuts.” Okay, that came out way harsher than I meant.

Luckily, Milan just chuckled and nuzzled closer. “Does that mean you’ll stay on as my partner? I thought you were done with police work.”

“I had a much needed break, but I actually enjoyed working again. Besides that, I want to be with you and make sure you’re safe. So I’ll be your partner as long as you want to stay on the force.” It was interesting how the love of a man could change my plans so much.

“Captain Mullins will be thrilled,” Milan replied, but I couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not. I knew the Captain appreciated my work, but he didn’t always agree with my methods. I’m sure we could find a happy medium of me doing what I wanted and him getting over it.

“Well as long as the Captain is happy,” I teased, and Milan snorted.

“Oh please, I’m obviously thrilled as well. I always want you by my side. I can’t imagine a better partner in any sense of the word.” My heart warmed, and I pressed a kiss to the top of his head.

“Me neither, darling. And as far as our living situation, I want to be wherever you’re happy. Since you’re wanting to work here, I’m happy to live here,” though that would mean many new American things for me to get used to. It was worth it to please my sweet Milan. “We can teleport to London at any point to visit, and we can spend weekends there as well. Slippers is pretty self sufficient, but we’ll make sure to give him lots of tuna and head scratches when we visit.”

“I love that plan,” he sighed, and his body totally relaxed against mine.

It was a great start, and we had the rest of time to adapt. As long as I had Milan by my side, I had everything I needed. Whatever life threw at us, we would face it together. I was excited to see what magic and mystery awaited us.
