“The news?” Bennett asks, raising an eyebrow at me. He always looks at me and it melts my insides. Today would have been the day he had to manually pop my cherry and knock me up but due to the news, I don’t think that will be necessary.

“I’m pregnant,” Jenny all but shouts. The look on Bennett’s face changes, darkens, but he quickly replaces it with a smile.

“Congratulations! What wonderful news. I assume you have confirmed with your general gynecologist?” he asks, his sexy, twangy voice makes me think of Johnny Cash. Gah, I squeeze my thighs together to ease some of the ache in my pussy.

“We did. Yesterday. Ten weeks. Eric and I think it happened after you harvested my eggs.”

“That makes sense. Another one must have dropped after we retrieved them. The

clomiphen citarate you took to stimulate your egg growth is a long-acting drug.”

“That may be the case, but I stopped worrying about having a baby. I knew, deep down, Sarah wouldn’t let me down and I let it go, gave it to God.”

“He works in mysterious ways,” Bennett says looking straight at me. I lick my suddenly dry lips again and I swear I hear the growl inside his head.

“He does. So that means, we won’t need to implant the eggs into Sarah today. What happens to the embryos?”

“We’ll keep them frozen for you for a long time. They can be viable for years.” he says. I know that will be reassuring for Jenny and Eric.

“That’s good to hear,” Jenny replies. Her main concern last night was not destroying the embryo’s. If that were the only option, I’d still have them implanted. I sit there thinking about how much I wanted to do this for them, but if I am being honest, really honest, I wanted to have a baby. I wanted to know what it would be like. I want to be a mom more than anything and while I know I wouldn’t be keeping this baby, I thought it would be good practice. For months now, I have thought about what it would be like to have Bennett’s baby.

“I, um, have some questions I’d like to ask, in private,” I say pointedly.

“Of course. Eric, Jenny please excuse us. Congratulations again. Let us know if you need anything else,” Bennett says standing and shaking their hands.

“Thank you for everything,” Jenny says, giving me a sly smile on the way out. I drove separately from them today, so I could have this chat with him. I told my sisters all about it last night. Christina laughed, saying a doctor would never sleep with a patient, but Jenny told me to follow my heart and I intend to do just that. Plus, she swears he looks at me all the time. Like, all the time.

As soon as the door is closed, we both try to speak at the same time. I giggle and we both talk at the same time again. He chuckles. The sound is deep, and it rolls over me in a wave. I close my eyes and take a deep, calming breath.

“You go first,” I say before he can say anything else.

“Have dinner with me,” he says, and I smile.

“Yes,” I answer simply. Sure, it’s just dinner, but everything inside of me tells me that dinner with this man is just the beginning.

Chapter Three

Bennett

I manage to get through the rest of my day, but she is all I can think about. After the quickest shower known to mankind, I am back in my car and on my way to her apartment. It’s in the Heights, so her safety isn’t something I’ve been worried about.

Getting out of my truck, I put my Stetson and head for her front door. There is an American flag themed wreath hanging on the door. Before I can knock, she opens the door. I stare at her in shock. She’s wearing a dark-washed, tight pair of jeans that hug every single curve she has. She’s also wearing a well-worn pair of cowboy boots, a tight white shirt, and a too big flannel shirt. This is also a fantasy of mine. I think it’s just her. Fuck the clothes.

“Hey, sorry. I got antsy. You look like a cowboy, so different than in your office.”

“I only wear suits to work and church, duchess. Is that going to be a problem for you?”

“No… not at all. Duchess?” she suddenly asks.

“The Duchess of York was named Sarah Ferguson.”

“Who’s that?” she asks, and I remember just how young my girl is. At least she’s legal, or who the hell knows what kind of trouble I’d get myself into.

“Former British royalty,” I say, remembering just how young she is. “It suits you, though duchess isn’t quite a high enough rank for what you’ll be to me.”

“What will I be to you?”
