The first picture that pops up is the picture we took at the bar last night. My eyes go straight to Travis, who stands beside me, and then all I can think about is our kiss. The kiss I’ve been dying to get for months. The kiss I’ve dreamed about. The kiss that just thinking about it gives me all the butterflies in the world. The kiss I would probably tell my cousins about. But what I wasn’t expecting was the kiss that would end all fucking kisses. I felt it all the way down to my bones. My head kept spinning around and around as his tongue slipped in with mine. I kept telling myself it was the alcohol in me. I kept making one excuse after another. I hadn’t been kissed in a long time, and he was a good kisser. I liked him. It was cold outside. It was only when I walked into the apartment and shut the door did I admit that this was the kiss I would be telling everyone in my life about. That kiss would ruin it for all other men.

I close down the phone when my heart gets a sudden little ping of regret that he didn’t come in with me. Walking to the bathroom, I wash my face and brush my teeth before heading to the kitchen and making a coffee.

The coffee starts brewing when I walk over to the window in the corner and look out. The gray clouds in the sky make it a great day for staying in bed. I turn to walk back to the kitchen when the machine stops at the same time as one of the bedroom doors opens. My eyes go to the hallway, where I see Jake walking out with Lydia following him.

His shoes are in his hand as Lydia looks down, and when Jake's eyes land on me, he stops walking. "Hey," he greets, and my eyes just go wide.

"Morning," I say, looking over at Lydia, who just glares at me.

"Well, I’ll be going," Jake says and turns toward Lydia. It looks like he’s going to go in for a kiss when she puts her hand to his forehead and pushes him away.

"Go," she tells him, and he smirks at me, then walks out of the apartment. When the door closes behind him, I look over at Lydia, who holds up her hand.

"What happened to the saying ‘don’t eat where you shit’?" I remind her when I said that Travis was cute. "Don’t go there, I believe you said. It’s not a great idea because he’s part of your social circle. If you hook up with him, it’ll be awkward the day after." I repeat all the things she told me.

"First of all." She holds up her finger. "It’s don’t shit where you eat," she corrects me, walking to the fridge and grabbing a water bottle. "And second of all, I know, I know." She brings the bottle of water to her lips and drinks half of it. I am not going to say that he left his mark on her neck because she hates hickeys. "But he was being cute, and I was drunk, and well, he’s good with his mouth."

"I bet." I try to hide my smile as I walk to my coffee cup, grabbing it and pouring some milk into it.

"Whatever you are thinking." She points at me. "Stop thinking it."

"The only thing I was thinking is you are going to have to go seven to ten days without sex with anyone new." She looks at me, confused. "I mean, how else would you explain that hickey on your neck?"

Her hand flies to her neck, and she runs to the long mirror we have on the wall right next to the television. "That motherfucker." I snicker into my coffee, and she turns to glare at me. "I told him not to suck too hard."

"Isn’t that something he would say?" I giggle at my own joke and walk toward my bedroom, leaving her looking at herself in the mirror as she tries to wash off the little red mark.

I get back into bed, grabbing my phone, when I hear a knock on the front door, and I laugh, knowing that it’s probably Jake who came back asking for more. I’m about to call my parents when the knock on my door has me looking over.

"Yeah," I say softly, and my eyes widen when I see Travis opening my door. "Oh, my," I whisper, getting off my bed.

"Hey," he says, coming in, and he looks like he just woke up and ran his hands through his hair. His white long-sleeved shirt is pushed up to his elbows, his gray sweatpants are loose on his legs but tight around the ankles.

"Hey," I reply softly, and I can’t help the smile that fills my face when I see him. My heart skips a literal fucking beat, and I contemplate going to him and giving him a kiss. One side of my head screams at me to go, while the other side of my head tells me not to move. "Um…"
