“Will you move in with me?”

I still then turn to look at him over my shoulder.

“Into your place?”

He nods. “I have a house close to Elwood Hoyt. Plenty of space. Close enough for you to walk to the office, though I could easily drive us.”

“Sudden, no?”

He shrugs. “Sudden? I don’t know. When have you felt like this before?”

I consider it then smile. “Never.”

He absorbs that with a solemn nod. “Then we’re on the same page. I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m all in, Scarlett. I’ve just admitted to your family that I’m in love with you. I’d like you to move in with me. I’d like to spend as much time with you as I can, and I know neither of us will cut down our time at the office, not really, so I’ve been thinking through that problem already.”

I smile and tip toward him, propping my arms up on his shoulders. His hands go easily to my hips, toying with my panties.

“Have you?”

“Yes,” he says, bending to kiss me. “You’ll give me every night and all your weekends. If we need to work, we’ll go in together. I’ll add a second desk in my office if I have to.”

I laugh and kiss him again. “Everyone will talk.”

“Fuck everyone.”

He steals a heavier kiss, tracing his tongue over mine. I feel my desire burn deep down inside me.

“And on these nights you have me…” I start to work his dress shirt up and out of his suit pants. I unbutton it from the bottom, taking in his toned stomach, the hair on his chest, his masculine build. “What will we do?”

He smiles. Right now, I wish I had a camera. I want to snap a picture of his face like this, so open and at ease, happy and dimpled.

“We’ll watch TV, make dinner, drink wine, cuddle with Moira,” he promises, helping me take his shirt off.

Then before I can get his pants unbuttoned, he’s walking us over to the bed. He hoists me up by my hips and positions me in the center of it.

“You’ll rub my feet…”

I snort. “As if!”

He laughs and comes up and over me.

“I’ll rub your feet,” he amends. “I’ll do whatever you want.” His brow furrows only slightly, like he’s troubled by a new thought. “You haven’t said yes.”

Oh.

“Let’s move my stuff tomorrow.” I say it like it’s that simple because it feels that simple. Wild how easy it can be when it’s right.

My answer makes him happy. He kisses me again, trailing his lips down my neck.

“I’ll help you pack,” he promises.

“I’ll treat you to dinner. You like pizza?”

“Of course. Don’t you remember feeding me a few months ago? The first night you stayed late? You brought me pizza at my desk and we shared dinner.”

He’s worked his way down my body and now he’s kissing near my navel. I slide my fingers through his hair, touching him lovingly. “I thought it was nice that you let me use your desk.”

He looks up, his chin pressed to my stomach. His eyes darken. “I wanted you then, but I didn’t allow myself to even think it.”

My finger glides over his cheekbone, back and forth reassuringly. He returns his attention to my body, peeling down my panties, letting them slip to the floor. I scoot back, trying to reposition myself, but he doesn’t allow it.

He tsks and keeps me right on the edge, tracing his finger between my legs so I arch up in response. I can’t help it. He knows just how to touch me, toy with me, until I’m writhing while he watches, bewitched by the sight of me.

When Hudson settles over me, his eyes locking with mine, his hips weighing me down, there’s not a feeling like it. It’s more than joy; it’s serenity.

His eyes catch mine. He smiles.

Most importantly, whatever you do, avoid Hudson Rhodes at all costs.

That was the warning I was issued, and I wonder what would have happened if I’d listened and steered clear of him. I could have asked my dad to place me on a different service, and maybe Hudson and I would have never crossed paths after that first day. He wouldn’t be here now, bending down to seal his lips to mine.

It’s unthinkable to imagine never having found Hudson, the only man to value every side of me, to understand my drive as an attorney, to push me to be better.

I pull his face toward me and kiss him back. I let him pin me to the bed, slide into me, thrust. I arch my head back and cry out, and Hudson looks down at me in awe.

“I love you.”

The conviction in his voice makes it hard to bear.

“I love you too, Hudson.”

In a thousand ways.

I’m the first to admit that falling for Hudson wasn’t easy, but I’m a girl up for any challenge. Now I’m grateful for the warning label he’s carried for so long. He’s too perfect. If people had access to his sweet side, someone would have snatched him up a long time ago. If the world knew Hudson is a big teddy bear beneath the scruffy jaw and angry eyebrows? All hell would break loose.
