She's perfect. I've always thought she was perfect. But having a taste, feeling her around my cock, that seals it right there.

She's mine.

Perri is tapping the ceramic mug with the tip of her nail, and staring off into space. I have no idea what she's thinking, but the look on her face says it's something she can't ignore.

“How are you feeling?” I ask, grabbing her attention as I walk to the island.

Her gaze jumps to mine, and she smiles happily. “Good. I feel pretty good.”

“You looked lost right there for a minute.” Laughing lightly, I lean over on the counter toward her and fold my hands together.

“Sorry, I was just thinking, that's all.”

“About. . .” I draw out the word because she can't just stop there. She gives me a side eye and thins her lips like I should already know. “Don't go worrying yourself over nothing.” Standing up, I walk around the island to her, and notice her take a slight step back. “We're both adults, we're both able to decide things for ourselves. Right?”

“Yeah, but, Kent, my father—”

“I told you, Perri, your father doesn't control either of us. Plus, he's not here, so, there's that too.” That gets me a soft laugh and a smirk, and I'll totally take it. “See, there's no reason to stress. Are you hungry?” I ask, changing the topic.

Shrugging a shoulder, she turns to the sink and starts the water.

“What are you doing?”

“I'm washing the mug.”

“Forget the mug, just leave it. Let's go do something.”

Perri shuts the faucet off, twisting around and gripping the edge of the counter. “Like what?”

“I don't know, but it's too nice out to sit inside here and do nothing all day.”

Reaching my hand out for her, she steps forward, but doesn't take it. Her eyes move from my hand to my face, and I grin. “Don't be shy now, you certainly weren't shy earlier.” Wriggling my fingers, she gently places her hand in mine.

“You better not be trying to get me fired, Kent. I'm supposed to be tending the pool, checking to make sure the property is clean, and the yard is watered. I'm here for you, but not for you. Understand?”

“I understand that I'm going to change your mind. You weren't sent for me, but now you're here for me.” Holding her fingers tight, I pull her out the door, and we start walking up West Palm Avenue.

We're still holding hands, our fingers gingerly tangled, but neither one of us is letting go. She's watching her feet as she walks, kicking a small rock with each step.

“Look, an ice cream truck. Want one?”

“Sure,” she says, partially looking up at me.

Standing at the truck, I order a simple vanilla cone, and Perri gets a peanut butter frozen yogurt. The beach is right beside us, so I start to walk toward the water.

“So,” I ask as my feet drop into the sand. “Why are you really here?”

“What do you mean?”

“I know you've always shown interest, but you've never actually been a part of your dad's business, so why now?”

With her mouth full of ice cream, she waves her spoon in the air. “Seriously?” she asks, arching a brow. “I've been begging for this opportunity, but it didn't matter how many times I asked, he always said no.”

“Not this time.”

“You're right, which is why I was suspicious of you.”

“You're not suspicious anymore?” I ask.

“Not like I was. I mean you did bang me,” she says, looking at me and giving me a sexy little grin. “Then again, isn't sleeping with the enemy how people get what they want too?”

“I'm not the enemy, I can tell you that.” Reaching the edge of the water, I kick off my shoes and sit down. “I’m certainly not that diabolical.”

Perri sits beside me and she looks out at the water. “It's beautiful, isn't it?”

“It is,” I say, but I'm not looking the ocean, or the sun as it's hovering right above the horizon, I'm looking at her. “It is beautiful, but I'm not sure she even knows it.”

“She?” she asks as she flicks her eyes up and realizes where I'm looking. “Ah, smooth.” Taking a spoonful of ice cream, she grins and flashes her brows. “Does that work on all your other fuck buddies?”

“Fuck buddies?”

“Yeah, the girls you just sleep with and have no relationship at all. No strings attached sex.”

“I know what it means.” Shaking my head, I laugh. “How old do you think I am?”

Perri giggles and gives me a nudge. “I don't think you're that old, but I do like that you're older.”

“Well, I don't know what you think about me, but I'm not running around with a bunch of women. I had a girlfriend, we broke up. Not a lot of drama there. No string of women in between. And then there's you.”
