“But you do want to marry her, right?” My mom’s tone was hopeful, and she gave me a watery smile.

“Of course, I do.” I winked at her. “You didn’t raise a fool. I already have the ring. I’m just waiting until she’s ready.”

My mom opened her mouth, that nosy gleam in her eyes once again, but I cut her off before she could speak.

“And I’m already working on the grandbaby, Mom. So you need to chill out. It’ll happen. Hell, she could already be pregnant.”

A gasp came from behind me, and I spun around to see Wrenley standing in the doorway, looking shell-shocked.

Son of a fucking bitch.

Wrenley

“Pregnant?” I echoed softly, my hand moving to cover my belly. With all the unprotected sex we’d been having, I probably should have realized sooner that Jordan was trying to knock me up. But for some strange reason, it had never crossed my mind that the lack of protection had been a deliberate choice on his part and not just a heat-of-the-moment thing.

Francie pressed her fingers against her lips. “Oh my, I’ve really put my foot in it.”

“It’s okay, Mom,” Jordan assured her, bending down to brush a quick kiss against her cheek. “Judging by Wrenley’s shocked expression, this is a conversation we need to have sooner rather than later anyway.”

Francie wrung her hands together and nodded. “It certainly does seem so.”

“I hope you don’t mind if we leave early so we can have some privacy for what needs to be said,” he added.

“Of course not, sweetie.” She flashed me an apologetic smile. “I’m so sorry if I’ve meddled too much, dear.”

“Please don’t worry.” Jordan interlaced our fingers, and I held onto his hand for dear life while it felt as though the world spun around me.

Instead of stopping to say goodbye to his dad, we headed straight for the door. The drive home was a blur as Jordan’s words to his mom played over and over again in my head. When he helped me out of the car and inside, he led me straight to the bedroom.

Glancing at the big bed, I took a step back and shook my head. “I think we should have this conversation somewhere without a bed so we won’t be tempted to have sex instead of talking.”

“I hate to break it to you, baby, but no such place exists.” Jordan stroked his thumb across my cheekbone. “We could be surrounded by hundreds of people in church, and I’d still want to sink my cock into your tight little pussy. Just not anywhere that someone could see or hear you.”

“And is that why you’re trying to get me pregnant?” I asked, steeling myself for an answer I wasn’t sure I was ready to hear. “Because you like having sex with me so much? Or do you feel as though we’re actually serious enough to think about having a baby together?”

While he cupped my cheek, his other hand slid up my back to wrap around the back of my neck. His hold was possessive and matched the determined gleam in his jade-green eyes. “I want you to be the mother of my children because I love you, Wrenley.”

“You love me?” I gasped, tears welling in my eyes.

“Did you miss the part where I told my mom that I had a ring for you?” He stalked over to the bedside table, yanked open the top drawer, and pulled out a small jewelry box. Then he came back, flipping the lid open with his thumb while he wrapped the fingers of his other hand around my wrist. Lifting my arm, he growled, “I’m going to spend the rest of my life with you, building our family. As many children as you want. And grandchildren later on. Maybe even great-grandchildren if we’re lucky enough to still be around.”

“Whoa,” I breathed as I stared down at the giant rock he was sliding onto my finger. The diamond solitaire was flawless and a perfect fit. “Was there a question in there? Because if so, the answer is yes. To it all. The wedding and babies.” I smiled up at him through my tears. “The grandbabies and great-grandbabies, too.”

“You skipped something important, baby.” His thumb brushed over the band circling my finger.

I dragged my gaze from the ring to blink up at him. “I did?”

“Uh-huh,” he confirmed with a satisfied smile. “Three little words that I should’ve said before now so you wouldn’t have been in doubt of my feelings for you. A particular phrase that I want to hear from your pretty lips.”

“Oh, yes. I guess that is kind of important.” I went up on my toes and twined my arms around his neck. “I love you too, superstar.”

“Thank fuck.” Lowering his head, he claimed my mouth in a kiss that quickly turned heated. “Since we’re in a room with a bed—like you pointed out earlier—we should definitely use it to celebrate our engagement. And while we’re at it, we should keep working on making those babies.”
