“I know how to build forts.”

“You do?”

“Yeah, I’m good at it.” I kissed his nose and gently pushed away to climb out of the hot tub. “I have an idea, but it’s too cold to do it out here. Let’s go inside.”

I threw Sky a towel and dried off before picking up our clothes and running to the house. I dumped our stuff on the sofa and told him to grab some ice cream. Then I went to the linen closet in the hallway and pulled a stack of sheets and a couple of blankets down and met him in the living room.

“I got the chocolate chip and two spoo—what are you doing?”

Sky set the container and the spoons on a side table and put his hands on his hips. He was buck-ass naked and extremely drool-worthy. I took a moment to admire him as I pushed the coffee table out of the way and lay two comforters on top of the Persian rug. I unfolded a sheet in his direction and inclined my head.

“We’re building a fort. It’s a naked fort. No clothes allowed. Tuck that end into the back cushion on the sofa and I’ll secure this side behind the chair.” I snapped the sheet when he didn’t move. “What are you waiting for?”

“I…I don’t—this is really um…sweet.”

“Yeah, well, hurry up. The ice cream is gonna fuckin’ melt,” I said in a faux-gruff tone.

Sky chuckled and got to work. Within ten minutes we’d erected a cavernous indoor tent. It was actually too big, so we redid it and made it a little cozier, keeping a small opening so we could see the TV and the lights from the pool outside. Then we leaned against the sofa, shared ice cream, and just…talked. And after a while, we lay down on the bed of blankets and made out.

We took our time. Sweet, sexy kisses morphed into deep passionate ones with twisting tongues and roving hands. He licked a trail from my chest to my cock and paused to play with my balls before sucking me to near oblivion. I pulled his hair to stop him, pushed him to his back, and crawled over him to return the favor.

“Colb, you don’t have to—”

“I want to,” I assured him, stroking him languidly. “Relax, baby. Let me take care of you.”

I was new to giving blow jobs, but I was a quick study. I copied Sky’s technique, licking his shaft a few times before taking as much of him in my mouth as possible. I sucked his dick eagerly, bobbing my head, and kneading his balls while he chanted my name above me. When he warned me he was close, I rolled on a condom, and slowly made my way inside my man.

We’d done some version of this dance countless times over the past few weeks. Sometimes we were rough and a little nasty. I liked that I didn’t have to be careful with him, and the raw carnal element of fucking like animals with complete abandon was freeing in a way I couldn’t quite explain. But this was pretty damn amazing too.

I stared into his eyes as I moved, rocking my hips over and over, whispering sweet nothings. Except I meant every word. He was beautiful, he was good, he was mine. And when the rhythm changed, I pumped a little harder and held him closer until he wrapped himself around me, dug his heels in my ass, and begged for more. We clung to each other when our release hit at the same time. And in that split second, I felt a sense of absolute rightness. Like the stars were aligned as they were meant to be. It was up to me to figure out the way from here.

Basic rule in hockey, and maybe in life…never take your eye off the puck. Easier said than done. A single puck could move at speeds close to a hundred miles per hour if it was hit hard enough. Life was more like practice when the ice was littered with dozens of pucks and small orange cones that were supposed to test your agility, dexterity, and speed. Everyone could see the nets on either side of the ice, but if you knew anything about hockey, you knew it was a hell of a lot harder than it looked to score. And if it seemed easy, something was probably wrong.

So yeah, in the weeks after our weekend staycation at Mom and Harry’s when everything seemed to gel and click…personally and on the ice, I should have been wary as fuck. And I should have known it wouldn’t last. In my defense, there were too many pucks on the ice. I couldn’t fucking see all the ways everything could fall apart.

First mistake, I narrowed my field of vision to school, hockey, and Sky. I didn’t go out with my friends or make an extra effort to hang out with Elliot. I didn’t have time, and I figured everyone was in the same boat. Second mistake, I naïvely assumed that because the team was finally winning, everyone was happy. Third mistake, I forgot about Kendra.
