My eyes widened, and my breathing hitched.

“I couldn’t take my mind off you. You’ve consumed every last part of me.”

He gripped my ass, wrapping my legs around his waist as he carried me toward his bedroom. Easing me onto the mattress, he hovered his muscular body over mine.

Kissing me.

Devouring me.

Making me feel like I was only his.

At first, his kiss was soft, taking my slightly parted lips as an open invitation to slowly slip his tongue into my awaiting mouth. He tasted of scotch and something else I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Deepening our kiss, he tightly gripped the back of my neck, and our tongues tangled in urgency and demand.

In one quick movement, he parted my legs with his and set his hard cock right on top of my heat, making me shudder with desire.

“You feel so fucking good, beauty.”

His hand skimmed down from my neck to the side of my breast, leaving a trail of longing in his wake. Before I knew it, my maid costume was on the floor, and I was left in just my bra and panties.

He groaned, loud and hard from deep within his chest as his predatory regard consumed my entire being.

His touch.

His scent.

His sounds.

“I love you,” he rasped in one breath, tugging the seam of my silk panties down.

The instant I sat up, expressing, “I love you too,” all fucking hell broke loose.

It wasn’t Deacon’s eyes I locked with…

It was the man standing by his bedroom door, wearing a ski mask that captured my attention.

“What the fu—”

He lifted his gun, rendering me speechless at the exact time Deacon turned around to see what startled me.

The minutes turned into hours and the hours into days as my whole life played out in front of me in a matter of seconds. I’d forever remember what happened next like it was a tragic love story.

“What are you—”

BANG!

A loud popping sound ricocheted off the walls from the gunman, and I screamed bloody murder as a sudden warmth sprayed all over my face.

My neck.

My chest.

For a moment, I thought he shot me, but I couldn’t have been more wrong when Deacon’s body came crashing down on me. All two hundred pounds of him fell lax on top of my petite frame. If I thought I couldn’t breathe before, Deacon’s blood and brains on my skin undoubtedly proved me wrong.

From that point forward, I was there, but I wasn’t.

The sudden weight of Deacon’s dead body was thrown off me like he weighed nothing.

“Stop fucking screaming,” someone snarled close to my ear, but I could barely hear them.

“Stop fucking fighting me,” the man sneered again.

I could barely hear him. My ears were ringing too loudly while the room closed in on me.

He murdered my boyfriend…

It repeated in my mind with no end in sight.

The man gripped my arm, yanking me up to stand on my wobbly legs. I instantly fell over into his solid muscular chest. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close to make sure I wouldn’t fall.

“If you know what’s good for you,” he growled in my ear again. “You’ll fucking stop.”

I could barely see through the haze of blood and God knows what else on my face and body. It all happened so fast I didn’t have time to register what occurred next.

The masked man spun me around with my back now to his front, whispering in my ear this time what sounded like, “Fuck around and find out,” before he put a rag over my nose and mouth and then…

Everything went black.

Ten

Cove

I felt the soft, warm sheets beneath me before I even opened my eyes. My body feeling as if it was one with the mattress. A floating sensation stirred through me. My head was as light as a feather, even though my body felt as heavy as a brick, sinking further and further into the linen sheets.

The smell and sounds of the waves of the ocean immediately assaulted my senses.

Where was I?

I swallowed hard, fully aware there were no beaches in Wyoming. Wherever I was, it was far from home.

“You’re finally awake,” a distorted male voice announced in the room a few feet away from where I was passed out.

I was instantly terrified, feeling fear in a way I never had.

How much time has passed? What is he going to do with me now that I’m awake? Will he kill me too?

No, or he would have already, right?

Question after question flew through my mind at rapid speed. One wouldn’t end before the next one began.

My eyes fluttered open, or maybe they were still closed. The room I was apparently passed out in was pitch black which was why my sounds and smells were heightened in the first place. I couldn’t see an inch in front of me as I quickly freaked the fuck out internally.
