I’m convinced now more than ever ... the kiss wasn’t real.

There is simply no way.

I mean nothing to him.

Nothing.

“HOW ARE YOU FEELING?” Eve asks, handing me a slice of pizza.

The pizza I was meant to get the other night before I was attacked. I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I don’t think anyone would appreciate me eating cold pizza a day after it was ordered. Oh, and had been sitting on the table. So, I had to throw it out and Eve must have read my mind because she showed up tonight with Ramona and pizza.

I think I’m in love with her.

“Like I was hit by a bus, and then it was thrown into reverse and backed over, before the driver laughed hysterically and hit me one more time for fun,” I answer her.

She laughs. “Well, I guess that means it fucking hurts.”

“Something like that,” I grin.

“Has Beckett been taking care of you?” Ramona asks.

I snort and take a bite of the cheesy goodness that is my pizza slice. “Beckett doesn’t take care of anyone unless he has to, and he certainly isn’t about to put himself out there for me.”

“Ugh, he is making me so angry. Why does he have to be such a dick?”

“Because he’s in love and he can’t be with her,” I mutter, suddenly noticing the pizza doesn’t taste as good when I think about that.

I wonder why that is?

I don’t care about Beckett and his little love affair, do I?

Girl needs to get laid. Stat.

“I still can’t believe he’s in love with some rich bitch.” Ramona shakes her head. “He seems smarter than that.”

“I wonder how she snagged him,” Eve ponders, pursing her lips. “She must have made him think she wasn’t rich, or he wouldn’t have gone there, surely ...”

“Maybe that’s how he likes them.” I shrug.

“Mmm, maybe.”

“Anyway, girl, let’s talk about you some more. I feel like I just don’t know enough about what’s going on around here.” Ramona claps. “How’s the money making?”

Considering I’m supposed to be doubling my load to make money to plant on Rocco so that Dane can take him out, I would say not that well. But I can’t tell them that, if the club found out I had decided to work with a cop and also trust him, they’d very likely kill me. No doubt about it, actually. That is like the ultimate no no, but right now I don’t see any other way out. Not without handing Mateo over, and I’m not sure I’m willing to do that.

“This has slowed me down,” I say, pointing to my body. “I am so tired it’s hard to do a full day. Beckett has been helping, but I’m so particular that he can’t do it without me anyway.”

“Is it super hard?” Eve asks. “It’s so fascinating to me.”

“It’s more a long process then it is hard,” I explain. “You have to get everything exactly right, every symbol, every line. I had someone draw it for me so incredibly accurate that I now use that for printing. It’s better than any replica I’ve ever seen. But then you have complications such as ink, paper, things like that. If you don’t get it right, it’s over.”

“God, that does sound complicated,” Ramona frowns.

“It is, but I love doing it,” I admit. “Even though it’s highly illegal and would send me away for a long time if I were caught.”

“You seem like you enjoy living life on the edge.” Eve laughs.

“Yeah, you could say that.”

“How has Beckett been treating you, prisoner and all?” Ramona questions.

I shrug. “Not too bad, considering. He’s grumpy and moody as hell but he mostly does everything I ask. I made him stay with me the other night, and he slept right beside me. So, you could say he’s being fair, really.”

“Wait,” Eve says, putting a hand up. “Girl, you slept next to Beckett?”

I roll my eyes. “We weren’t doing any funny business, just sleeping and maybe ...”

“Maybe what?” Ramona shrieks. “What, woman?”

“Well, I was really drugged out, but I could have sworn we made out.”

“What?” Eve yells, standing up and clapping her hands. “Why did you not start with this news?”

“Because,” I say with a laugh, “I don’t know if it actually happened, though my mouth was all scratchy and sore the next morning.”

“You made out for that long?” Ramona gasps. “Girl, that couldn’t have been imagined.”

“Well, he hasn’t said a word, so I’m starting to think it was.”

“There’s only one way to find out.” Eve raises her brows. “You try again.”

“No,” I say, shaking my head. “No way. He’ll reject me for sure. The man is in love with someone else.”

“Maybe you’ll be what gets him past that.” Ramona wiggles her brows.

“Stop it.” I chuckle. “No. I’m not going to try and make out with Beckett again.”
