I roll my eyes, but I’m grinning, because she’s right, why not?

“Anyway, since then it has been absolutely crazy. Beckett lost it when he found out about Remy, then he and I ... well ... except it was unprotected.”

Ramona’s eyes widen. “Shit? Are you on the pill?”

I shake my head. “I’m an idiot is what I am. I should know better than to do something like that, I mean honestly, he could have anything.”

“I wouldn’t be worried about that so much as getting pregnant,” Ramona says, giving me an “uh-oh” expression.

“Yes, he asked me about it and then asked if it was too late to take the morning after pill. That sucked. But, I guess it’s something I should be looking at. The problem is, he hasn’t taken me into town and every hour that’s ticking by ...”

“I can take you,” Ramona says, standing. “This is important.”

“They’re not going to let you take me anywhere. I’m their little prisoner, remember?”

“Fuck what they want. Let’s go.”

I stand and follow her out, mostly to watch the show than anything. She walks over to the group of bikers talking and taps Riggs on the shoulder. He turns and she informs him that she’s taking me into town.

“No, you’re not. She can’t be trusted,” Riggs tells her, his voice unwavering.

He’s not budging.

“Are you going to fetch her some tampons?” Ramona throws her hands on her hips. “Or some chocolate? Or a heat bag? Are you going to even know what size she needs?”

Riggs looks mortified. “She’s a fuckin’ prisoner, Ramona. I don’t trust her.”

“Let them go,” Beckett says, his voice rough. “She won’t run, she needs us because without us, she’s dead.”

Also, if he doesn’t let me go, he could be a daddy in nine months and he knows it.

I meet his eyes and then look away before he sees how awkward this whole thing is for me.

“Fine, anything happens, you’re on the firing line,” Riggs tells her.

“Hey,” Adan growls. “Watch it, brother.”

Ramona gives Riggs a shit-eating smile, walks over to Adan, kissing him long and deep and, then takes his keys and nods at me. I walk with her, still shocked she actually managed to pull that off.

Girl is a legend.

I think I might just love her.

We get into the truck and head into town.

Freedom, at last.

“SO YOU COULD BE PREGNANT?” Eve whisper-hisses, leaning in so nobody else hears.

But of course someone hears.

Someone always hears.

And her name is Doris.

“Oh, dear, no. You didn’t have unprotected sex, did you?”

I close my eyes and then open them, giving Eve a look as she gives me a “whoops” face. I turn slowly to face Doris, who has spun around in her chair and is looking at us. I’m going to start sitting away from her soon, the woman has incredible hearing. It’s terrifying, really.

“It wasn’t ... It was an accident.”

“Well ...” Doris wiggles a finger. “Half the world is an ‘accident’, dear. You can’t be too careful.”

“I went and got the morning after pill,” I inform them, as Eve quickly takes a seat.

“How many days has it been?” Eve asks.

“A few,” I admit, guiltily.

“I had a friend who took it after a few days,” Doris pipes up. “She was pregnant a few weeks later. Men’s sperm, dear, don’t underestimate it. Those things fly like little soldiers and if you don’t catch them in time ...”

She pretends she’s rocking a baby.

Sweet lord, she’s terrifying.

“Thank you.” I give her a tight smile. “I’ll remember that for future sex.”

She nods, pleased she got the point across.

“Have you taken it yet?” Eve asks.

“Not yet, I’m taking it when I get back to the warehouse.”

“How is Beckett with all of this?”

“Worried, clearly. I can see it in his face. He’s stressed out because if it happens to be a thing, then his love affair will find out and everything will blow up.”

“That’ll teach him for messing around with married women.” Doris nods firmly. “Maybe he’ll learn a thing or two.”

“Yes, he might. But I don’t want a baby with a man who hates me.”

“Men don’t sleep with women they hate, dear. He likes you more than he’s admitting.”

Oh, Doris.

If only that were true.

“I actually agree with Doris on that one,” Eve nods. “I think he likes you more than he’s admitting. If he hated you, he simply wouldn’t have done it.”

“They’re bikers, they can do anything without a problem,” I mutter.

“Hey,” Ramona says, approaching our table with bags of groceries in her hands. “I got everything you need out there. Those men won’t starve my girl anymore.”

I laugh. “You’re a legend, thanks so much.”

She shrugs. “Just doing what I can for the mom-to-be.”

I scowl at her and she laughs. “Sorry, I couldn’t help it. I’m sure it’ll be fine. Come on, we had better get you back before they send out a search party.”
