“Darya,” he whispered, and my name on his lips caused my belly to do a somersault.

“Yes?” I asked, suppressing a shiver.

“What else did you see in your future? What did Sarasin show you?”

I stiffened. “I don’t really want to talk about it.”

“Why, though? Was it bad?”

“Not bad, necessarily, just … unexpected, I guess.”

His eyes were full of curiosity now, his voice soft, “In what way was it unexpected?”

I inhaled deeply, unsure if I should blurt it out or if it was better to keep it to myself. A small quiet elapsed before I finally answered, “I suppose because I thought I was going down a certain path with a certain person, and then I saw my future, and it was an entirely different path with an entirely different person.”

I glanced at him, and his gaze was on me, his eyes bright like a million possibilities were running through his mind. Maybe I was too forthcoming because I feared he understood far too clearly what I hinted at. “So,” he said, swallowing thickly, “you’re not with Peter?”

Emotion clogged in my throat. It still made me heartbroken to think that Peter’s and my roads would diverge somewhere along the way. With my being in prison, maybe they already had.

I gave a gentle nod to confirm. His gaze was still intent on mine, something fierce in his expression. Unable to take the intensity any longer, I closed my eyes, pushing down my chaotic emotions.

“Rest your head on me,” Vasilios said after a time. “I don’t mind.”

“What about you? Do you want to switch in a little while? You must be tired.”

“I’m not tired, and no, we don’t need to switch.”

“But—”

“Just rest your head on me, Darya. It will be more comfortable.”

And so I did. Time passed while we stood in each other’s embrace, just trying to stay alive, no sign that anyone was going to let us out of there any time soon.

“Are you okay?” he asked after a while, and I realised I’d been shifting from foot to foot, trying to stem the need to pee.

“I’m fine.”

“You sure? Because you keep wriggling around, and though I’m finding it rather, well, interesting, I’d like to know if something’s wrong.”

I then realized that my shifting around meant my breasts were rubbing against him. Oh, man. That was so awkward. “I need to pee, but don’t worry, I can hold it.”

“You don’t have to.”

I lifted my head from where it had been resting on his shoulder to stare at him in disbelief. “Are you saying I should piss myself?”

“We’re probably going to be here for a long while yet, Darya. That means we’ll both have pissed our pants by the time we get out.”

“Oh my God, shut up!” A small, horrified burst of laughter erupted from me. “That’s disgusting. I’d rather die of a burst bladder than piss my pants in front of you.”

Vasilios chuckled in response. “Don’t be so dramatic. It’s only humiliating if you let it be. I’m the only one here, and I won’t judge you.” There was something about his statement that made me feel all weird and mushy inside. What was wrong with me? Was I actually smitten by the fact that he didn’t care if I peed myself in front of him?

“That’s fine for you to say. If you need to go, you can just whip your cock out and pee in the corner.”

He closed his eyes, a pained expression on his face. “Darya, I’m trying my best not to get an erection with your perfect breasts pressed against me. Please don’t say the word cock. It’ll get me excited.”

Stunned. Silence.

I thought I couldn’t become any more mortified, but I was wrong. I made to push away from him, but his arms were like steel clamping around me. “You have no idea what my breasts are like,” I countered. Why did I say that? How was that the detail I focused on?

One of his hands flattened out on my back, and I suddenly felt hot all over. His mouth was at my ear when he murmured, “No, but that doesn’t stop me from imagining, and I imagine they’re pretty fucking perfect.” His warm breath sent a shivery pulse from my ear down between my legs. It wasn’t happening.

How was this happening?

Clearly, the prospect of falling to a watery grave had caused me to lose my sense of morality, my logic, and my entire bloody mind!

I shifted in place, squeezing my thighs together to stem the desire his words created. I was an awful person. The very worst. Under my jumpsuit, my nipples hardened to delicate peaks. I knew he felt them when his expression darkened.

I couldn’t prevent the vision of my future from filling my head, the one when I’d been rolling around in bed with Vasilios, his hands and mouth on me like I was his to possess and he was mine.
