It never fails. I’m just trying to do my job and some man thinks because I have my butt in the air, he can touch it. This is the second time this week and I’ve had enough. You would think people these days would know the rules, as in, don’t touch a woman without asking first. Definitely don’t fondle her ass while she’s at your work trying to install a new alarm system.
I knew the moment I met him that he would be a problem. He started hitting on me the moment I walked in the door. I refused his advances and I even did it politely. But my politeness is about to wear off.
I’m at Knox Tavern on the west side of town. This is their second restaurant in the area and my boss, Ryder, sent me here to do the new install. It will be easy, he said. Biting the inside of my cheek, I try to push down my irritation.
His name is Kevin. And I am guessing he thinks he is God’s gift to women. He’s the type that thinks just because I’m a curvy, plus-size woman, I should be falling at his feet. Well, I’m not and I won’t be. However, he is not accepting my brush-off and he is becoming more persistent.
He asked me to meet him in an office in the back of the restaurant. I said no and insisted on a table out in the open. He asked me out and I told him no. The back of his hand touched my breast when he handed back the paperwork I had given him to sign and I called him out on it. He said it was an accident. However, I’m under a desk resetting a modem and his hand caresses my ass and stays there until I stand up. He has his body pressed tightly against my back and I try not to lose my temper as I turn around and push him backwards.
Grabbing up my things, I start shoving them into my bag. I refuse to finish the install with this vile man in my presence. I will come back later when the owner or another manager is here. Throwing my bag over my shoulder, I head to the door. Until Jackass Kevin decides to give it another try.
“Stop, honey, don’t go. Finish the installation. Then you and I can go get a drink.”
“No thank you. I will just come back another day. Maybe when your boss is here.” I clench my teeth to stop myself from telling him exactly what I want to say to him.
He grips my shoulder tightly. “Look, my boss expected this to be done today. You are not leaving until it’s done.”
I can feel my pulse elevating. “You should have thought about that before you decided to feel me up, asshole.” And I pull away from him.
He brushes past me and presses me against the open door of the office. “Now look, honey…”
But I don’t give him time to finish. I lift my knee to his groin and as he doubles over in pain, I take the opportunity to get out of here.
I can still hear him moaning as I run out the front door.
Serves him right.
I stop on my way back to the office and grab a coffee. Decaf, of course. I don’t need any caffeine at this point.
When I walk into the office, I immediately hear Mike, one of the owners, hollering my name and calling me into his office.
When I walk in, I calmly sit down and I can tell by the look on his face, Knox Tavern has already called him.
“Charlie, the new install at Knox Tavern was supposed to be completed today. Brody, the owner, called and is upset that you walked out in the middle of a job.”
I keep quiet and just stare Mike down. He is a great boss and usually very reasonable. But of course, I’ve never ticked off one of his clients before, either.
“So… are you going to tell me what happened? It’s not like you to not finish a job.”
Biting my lip, I decide I may as well confess. It will come out eventually. “I kneed Kevin, one of the managers, in the groin, sir.”
“You did what?” he explodes and jumps up from his seat. He’s holding his hands to his temple and I can see his thoughts racing. When he gets himself together, he finally asks me, “So why exactly did you knee him in the groin?” And he grimaces when he says the word groin.
“Well, he wouldn’t take no for an answer. I didn’t want to get a drink with him, I didn’t want his hand on my breast or my ass. I had enough and took care of it… sir.”
“Quit with the sir, Charlie. You never call me that. Are you okay?” At the shake of my head, he continues, “I knew there was an explanation. I will take care of it.”
