“How long have I been sleeping?” She jerked her eyes wider. “Oh, no! The coffee shop!”

He sat next to her and rubbed her tummy. “Everything’s fine. You have amazing staff. They have it covered. I’ve spoken to Sunshine several times. A few of the new kittens have already been adopted.”

CC pouted. “I didn’t even get a chance to see their cute little faces.”

Tangerine picked that moment to rise, stretch, and jump down from the bed to roam out of the room. His indifference toward her didn’t help matters.

Daddy chuckled. “There will be more. The world is filled with kittens needing homes.” He glanced at his watch. “Besides, it’s only been a little over a day. If your fever stays down, I bet you’ll be up and moving around by tomorrow. You’ll probably feel strong enough to go into work for a while the next day.”

She stared at him. A tear slid down her cheek. “What would I do without you?”

“You’ll never know,” he assured her. He patted her tummy. “How about if you empty your bladder and then I’ll give you a bath. I bet you’ll feel much better. Another nutritional bottle and a good night’s sleep will have you much stronger tomorrow.”

She wanted to argue that she could use the potty this time but decided against it. Secretly, she’d found she didn’t mind Daddy taking care of her so intimately. She wouldn’t want to use a diaper all the time, but maybe sometimes…

Ten minutes later, Daddy lowered her into the tub, supporting her weak body with one large hand at her back. “You okay to sit up on your own, Pumpkin?”

“Yes, Daddy.” She found the strength and supported her weight as he slowly removed his hand to grab the loofah. She loved when he bathed her. It was so special and intimate. Sometimes he made it sexy, but sometimes he just washed her with gentle care.

Today was definitely not one of the sexy times, but even in her weakened state, she knew she was getting better from the weird bug she’d caught because her body reacted to his touch.

Daddy didn’t comment, nor did he linger on her private parts, but he knew her well by now. He wouldn’t miss her hard nipples or the natural wetness between her legs.

When he was done, he let the water out, wrapped her in a towel, and carried her back to the bedroom. She didn’t argue when he put a fresh diaper on her, wrapped her in a soft throw blanket, and settled her curled up on the armchair.

She watched as he changed the sheets and then carried her to the fresh bedding.

She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight. Her heart was racing. She loved him so much. She was filled with emotion. Her fears were back. Fears of losing him like she’d lost her husband. She was so deeply attached to Hunter. If anything happened to him…

Daddy rubbed her back. “Hey, there, Pumpkin, what’s this all about?” He leaned back and met her gaze, his brows furrowed.

She swiped at her tears. “I just love you, and you’re so good to me, and I don’t want anything to happen to you,” she admitted.

He threaded his hands in her hair and held her steady. “There are never guarantees. I won’t make promises I have no control over, but I plan to be here with you for decades, Pumpkin. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure that happens.”

She glanced around her room as he eased his hold. It still felt weird when he was in her home. The place was kind of a shrine. Reminders of Darren were all over the place. She suddenly felt guilty for not putting some of the pictures away.

“Tell Daddy what you’re thinking now, Pumpkin.”

She licked her lips and met his gaze. Honesty was important. “I don’t think I want to keep this house,” she admitted. “But also the thought of selling it and moving on makes me sad.”

“Ah, Pumpkin, those feelings and thoughts are perfectly natural. I would never pressure you to sell this house. It holds fond memories of happy times. I would, however, like to make our living together official and permanent. My place or yours. Whatever makes you feel more comfortable.”

She swallowed, grateful that it didn’t hurt any longer. “I think maybe yours, Daddy.”

He smiled. “I also think it’s time for us to put together a nursery for you. A safe place where you can be as Little as you want sometimes. It will especially come in handy when you’re sick.” He kissed her nose.

“Why’s that, Daddy?” She didn’t know what he meant by that last part, though she did get fluttery thinking about having a nursery. She knew some of the other Littles she’d met had nurseries. She was kind of jealous but hadn’t let herself think about it too much.
