Maybe if he had a ring on his finger too, it would keep her from fretting about other women. Hell, he would hope a ring on his finger would keep other women from flirting with him altogether.

Hunter hadn’t been kidding when he’d told her last night he hadn’t noticed other women’s attention, but that didn’t make her feelings any less valid. If it bothered her, he needed to pay closer attention. She was his top priority.

A ring would definitely help… Hmmm…

“What are you grinning about?” she asked as he slid out of her and dropped to one hip at her side.

He stroked a lock of hair from her face. Was I grinning? Probably. “Just thinking about how much I adore you,” he murmured before planting a kiss on her lips and letting it deepen because he knew it would scramble her brain and cause her to forget her question.

It was funny. Usually men liked the idea of putting a ring on a woman’s finger to make sure everyone knew she was off the market. And he did like that part too. He wondered if customers in her coffee shop would spend less time chatting with her if she were married. Probably not. She was friendly and kind. Plus, she had kittens. Who didn’t love kittens?

He’d never heard of a man wanting a ring on his own finger so badly. But all Hunter cared about was making his Little girl happy, and he suspected that would go a long way toward reassuring her.

She was humming and dazed when he finally ended the kiss. “I think I like waking up early with your lips on my private parts,” she whispered.

“How about we start moving your things into my house this weekend?” he proposed.

She smiled. “I like that plan.”

Hunter glanced at the clock. It was time for them to get up and start getting ready for the day. Tangerine knew the time too. Like clockwork, the cat jumped onto the bed and started purring.

Chapter Nineteen

The nursery furniture arrived a few days later and Hunter happened to be off, so he spent the day assembling everything and filling the drawers and shelves and closet with everything he’d accumulated over the past few weeks. He wanted it to be perfect when his Little girl got home from work.

His timing was excellent because she texted him just as he was finishing. All that was left were the decals, and he wasn’t about to choose the location for each of the stuffie stickers. CC would have to direct where she wanted each decal when she arrived.

Ten minutes later, he heard the door open. “Daddy? I’m home,” CC called out.

“I’m in your nursery, Pumpkin,” he responded, wanting to wait in the new room for her so he could see her face when she stepped inside. He was sitting on the rocking chair with a perfect view of the door.

Seconds later, she bounded into the doorway and stopped dead. Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped as she glanced around the room before meeting his gaze. “Oh, my goodness. You’ve been busy today.”

“Do you like it?”

She smiled broadly and squealed. “I love it.” She stepped in farther. She was holding something large and flat in her hands.

“What do you have there?” he asked, pointing to the odd-shaped item. Or maybe it was a triangle. She was waving it around absently, but now he decided it was definitely triangle shaped.

She glanced down as if just remembering it and then grinned. “Oh. Right.” She bit her lip and looked at him mischievously. She held the giant triangle closer to her body, not showing it to him. She giggled.

He couldn’t keep from chuckling indulgently. She was obviously reluctant to share her new item, but he adored her and didn’t care what it was. They were definitely keeping it.

“See, uh, well, Ellie from Little Cakes came in to deliver some pumpkin spice cupcakes late this morning because we were running low, and she had just been to the printer and picked up a bunch of these, and she was excited about them, and she wanted to show me, and I went out to her car with her, and well…she said I could have one if I wanted, and I thought it would look cool in my new nursery with my other decals. Can I keep it, Daddy? Can I?”

He laughed. “Pumpkin, you may certainly keep it if it makes you happy, but you haven’t shown it to me yet,” he pointed out.

“Oh, right.” She lifted it up and turned it around.

Hunter stared for a moment, taking it in and then burst out laughing even harder. “That is the most clever thing I’ve ever seen.”

It was a food pyramid with all the food groups represented except the entire bottom section of the triangle was filled with cupcakes. It was a very clever gimmick. He loved it.
