I nodded my head.

I could see that.

Oh, boy could I see that.

“That’s how Troy got me at first,” I told him. “His sister had just died in a car accident right after she was released from rehab. I met him while his sister was on my floor. She was doing so well when they released her from the hospital. Then, she purposefully ran head on into oncoming traffic. She was hit by another driver, while she was going the wrong way down a one-way street.”

His face showed his sadness.

“I don’t really want to talk about this,” he said after a while. “I don’t like that man and I don’t want to have anything that connects me to him, even remotely.”

A smile quirked up the corner of my lips.

“So I guess being with me—like he was a very long time ago—would connect you to him. Even remotely.”

I knew I was poking the sleeping bear.

What I hadn’t countered into the equation was the sheer possessiveness that he felt towards me. Even though we’d never gone much further than what we had earlier in the day.

His hand went into my hair, and he pulled my face closer at the same time his other hand went to my hip and yanked me fully into his lap.

“I don’t want to think about that—you with him,” he said. “I don’t like him. I don’t like that he’s had what I want.”

I stared into Bowe’s chocolate eyes, and smiled. A full out, I’m going to lick you up, never going to stop, smile.

“Then what are you waiting for?”

Chapter 12

It’s hard to resist a bad boy who’s a good man.

-Fact of Life

Bowe

The moment those words left her mouth, all that I’d been pushing down, stuffing into my little box marked for ‘later’ came pouring out.

My mouth came down on hers roughly as I started to work my hand into the back of those loose fucking shorts that I’d been admiring for the last month.

There wasn’t much to them. Only a simple pair of loose black shorts that hung about four inches past the promise land.

Which was the problem.

They were so fuckin’ simple, but they were perfect.

They were thin, meaning I could make out each bump and ripple in the panties she had on underneath them.

Or the panties she didn’t have on underneath them.

Then there was the shirt.

It was a simple ribbed tank top, and she had about thirty of them.

However, over the last month it felt like she was testing my resolve to stay there, making it harder and harder each day to follow through with my word.

“If we do this,” I said, pressing a kiss to her lips. “I’m not leaving. I’m staying. Forever. You literally won’t be able to get rid of me. I’ll move in here permanently. Let my lease go. Set up shop. Seriously…I’m yours.”

She laughed against my lips.

“You can always try to leave and see what that gets you,” she replied, lifting her knees up so she sat fully flat against my erection.

My hand that was holding the bare skin of her ass clenched, and she moaned, liking the display of strength.

“I don’t have any condoms. I know I should have bought some on the way home. I just wasn’t thinking clearly,” I told her flatly. “We can’t go much past what we’re doing already.”

She pulled back until she could read my eyes.

“I’ve had an IUD since Elise’s birth.” She stared into my eyes. “And although I haven’t had any STD tests ran since her birth, I also haven’t slept with anyone since before then, either.”

My eyes studied her face.

“It’s been a lot longer than that for me,” I looked to her mouth. “I have a problem keeping women.”

I blinked.

“You…what?” she was confused.

Chapter 13

I don’t think outside the box. I don’t even know what the fucking box is.

-Angie’s secret thoughts

Angie

That man wouldn’t have a problem keeping a woman unless he didn’t want her.

“I kind of suck at relationships,” he admitted. “I don’t know why. I don’t know how. But I’ve never managed to have a girlfriend for longer than a month at a time since I started being interested in girls. I think there’s something wrong with me.”

I looked at him, studied his face, my eyes lingering on the beard, and then grinned. “There’s definitely nothing wrong with you.”

To prove that point, I pushed him until he was flat on his back, then started running my tongue up the length of his neck.

He growled and started to fidget, his hands wanting to go to my shorts, but unable to make himself go there.

“Do it,” I whispered. “There’s nothing that you and I do together that’ll ever be wrong.”

His hands fisted my shorts, causing the seams to stretch in protest with his tight hold.

I huffed a laugh and bent forward, letting my breasts trail against his chest as I did.
