“God, what’s wrong?” I sigh.

Gina pushes up her glasses. “So, Rachel wanted me to make sure to remind you that she’s bringing Alberto over with some dresses for you to try on…for the Grammys.”

“Okay.” I smile at her as relief floods her face. Alright, that’s it, I am not being sensitive. Something is up with Gina, and I really don’t want to have to have Rachel get me a new assistant.

“Are you alright?” I ask her as she rubs her forehead.

“Yes. I mean, I thought you were going to be upset.” She smiles as she sends a text.

“Why would I be upset?” Turning to the mirror again, I fluff my hair that I’ve parted in the middle. I guess it can just curl naturally.

I blame Ammo, he’s distracting me…in all the best ways, of course. I have to bite my lower lip to stop myself from smiling. Because if I’m not careful, I might actually let my guard down and start being happy. These last weeks with Ammo have been amazing.

We work until six or later, then he either cooks or we order in, and don’t get me started on the sex…the man is a machine.

He literally can fuck all night. My muscles are still trying to adjust to his rigorous appetite, and that’s saying something since I’m used to performing for hours on end.

“I’m so relieved, I’ll go help bring the dresses in.” She nods and turns to leave.

“Wait, what? The dresses are here already?” I call after her, but she’s already gone. I shake my head…weird.

My phone distracts me as it starts ringing and my heart leaps to my throat. “Jesus, get ahold of yourself,” I whisper to myself as I smile at the picture of Melanie I have as her contact picture where she’s flipping me off.

“Hello.” I’m trying really hard not to sound obvious because I know what she’s calling me about, and I will literally burst out laughing if I think about it too hard.

“You bitch. I leave you for a couple weeks and you take my husband,” Melanie shrieks through the phone as I lose the fight and laugh because she’s absolutely ridiculous in just the right ways.

“You snooze, you lose.” I laugh, not realizing how much I have missed her.

“I want to hear everything. I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to get back to you, but I met this billionaire who turned out to be a nightmare…anyway, I’ll tell you everything when I get home. Now spill why I had to find out through the tabloids that you’re literally fucking my husband?”

“Okay, relax. We are not together, he’s just producing my album, and…” My voice trails off as I try and figure out how best to describe the situation between me and Ammo. It’s not like we have had any kind of talk about what this is, we just have this amazing chemistry.

“Oh, please God, tell me you are not being you?” She sighs dramatically.

“I don’t even know what that means.” I have to put her on speaker as I reach for some deep berry stain lipstick.

“You are, aren’t you? Thank God I’m coming home, you clearly need me.”

“Mel, he’s just my producer.” All of a sudden, I’m feeling vulnerable because talking about him makes this real, and to be honest, I don’t do real well at all. In fact, I don’t even want to think about the fact that I seem to be happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life…that shit is scary.

“Really? So you won’t mind if I make a move when I get back? I mean, I did call dibs on him first.” Looking in the mirror, I blow out a deep breath, trying to calm my heart that’s starting to race.

“Whatever, we are not exclusive,” I choke out as she starts laughing.

“Bitch, you’re such a bad liar and I love you so much.”

I hear commotion downstairs, and it’s getting harder to hear her on the phone, so I tell her, “Okay, listen…” I turn and go to sit down on my couch as I cross my legs, looking down at my heeled black boots. “We’re going to Granger’s tonight. He’s having a party and I’m just…nervous.” As soon as I voice it, I want to take it back because it truly does sound pathetic, What am I? Thirteen?

“Oh wow.” Mel’s voice sounds concerned, and it also sounds like she’s somewhere outside because I hear a siren go by as I stand and straighten my shoulders.

“Look, I’m just a little off, that’s all.” I close my eyes because why would I say anything? Saying it makes it real, and again, I don’t do well with reality. Lying to myself about what this is between us works so much better.

“Shh…and listen to me. Do not, and I repeat, do not fall for Ammo. Like fuck him, get your freak on, but never fall in love with a rocker.” Her voice is strangely serious, even with the siren drowning out half of it.
