“I did,” he says with a smile and then kisses my temple.

I stumble over to the stool and sit on it with my heart pounding. That was… I don’t even know what that was.

I’m still trying to figure out how he can make me feel like this when he turns back to his engine, something clicking in his mind.

He gets back to work on the problem and I get back to work on admiring him.

Waiting…

Impatiently…

For our next break.

EPILOGUE

Lara

Eight months later…

My insides are vibrating like the nine rumbling engines in front of me as I raise the flag. It waves in the wind as I slowly count down from ten.

Dillon’s possessive eyes are on me. They always are.

I’m not supposed to be playing favorites, but I can’t help but glance over at him. I have to stifle a smile when I see him sitting behind the wheel of his car, looking so damn hot and sexy as usual. I just know he’s going to win. He always does.

This man has the most skilled hands when he’s driving, and luckily for me, those skills translate to the bedroom. His hands are quite skilled when he’s handling my curves as well.

This is an amateur race on a real track during the light of day. Dillon has already been through a series of races and if he wins this one, he’ll be able to try out for a real racing team. It’s his dream and I hope more than anything that he gets it.

I mouth an ‘I love you’ to him and he mouths it back to me.

With my pulse galloping away and my body filling with glee, I yank the flag down and start the race.

Tires squeal, black smoke fills the air, muscle cars rocket past me in a terrifying blur. Dropping the flag is both scary and exhilarating. Dillon would prefer that I stayed in the safety of the stands, but I tell him if he’s going to risk his life racing, then I can face a little danger too. He usually grunts in disagreement, but I know that he likes seeing me on the track. I’m the last thing he sees before he hits the gas pedal and he’s starting to think of me as his good luck charm.

I spin around and watch the cars fly down the track. My heart is racing as I spot Dillon’s red car take the lead.

“Yes,” I whisper as I squeeze the flag in my hand. “That’s my man.”

I hurry to the side and climb into the stands to watch. Tina saved me a seat. She’s cheering for another racer, Marcus, who she’s been dating lately.

“I got you a beer,” she says as she hands me a cup.

I look at it and slide my hand over my stomach. “I’m okay, thanks.”

She shrugs and puts it under her seat to drink after she finishes the one in her hand.

We have a perfect view of the finishing line where we’re sitting. I’m always so nervous during Dillon’s races. I keep nervously turning the engagement ring he gave me five months ago. It was the most romantic proposal ever. We drove up to this adorable little town in the mountains and spent the day at a stunning lake. After, we had a blast wandering through the cute little shops and then had a romantic dinner at an amazing restaurant with a breathtaking view of the mountains.

Dillon booked us a room in the only inn in town and just when I thought the amazing day was over, he brought me up to the roof where there were over a hundred white candles lit up. He dropped to his knee and proposed to me under the stars. It was spectacular and easily the most romantic moment of my life. It was the easiest decision I ever had to make. The wedding is planned for next summer.

I jump off the bench and stand on my toes as the cars come zipping around the corner. Dillon’s red Ford Torino is in first place.

“Go, Dillon!” I shout as he comes flying by. He passes in a blur, followed by eight other colorful blurs.

Two more laps to go.

“Marcus is in third,” Tina says nervously as she nibbles on her fingernails. “I hope he can catch up.”

I know he’s racing for second place since my man is going to finish first, but I don’t tell her that. “He’s probably going for a dramatic finish,” I say instead.

The past eight months have been incredible. Dillon is an amazing fiancé and our love story has only increased in heat and passion.

We’re looking for a house now and hoping to move in soon. He keeps saying that he wants a lot of bedrooms since he has big plans to fill the house up with an army of babies. I run my hand over my stomach and smile, knowing we’re about to get started on that plan.
