She glared at me, waiting for her mom to pick up. They exchanged greetings and then the older woman asked how the date was going.

“Fine.”

“That’s nice, dear.”

“I wanted to let you know . . .” Our eyes met and held. “That I’ll be home . . .” I tilted my head, sending her a silent warning. “Late.”

She ended the call and handed me back the phone. She was being deliberately disobedient at every turn. I growled at her, thinking a spanking was definitely in order.

Kelly wasn’t even a little bit intimidated. She crossed her arms and gave me a sassy look.

“Anyone else you want to call? Or is there something else you want to do?”

“Something else.”

With a growl, I yanked her into my arms, my mouth crashing down on hers. I couldn’t resist this girl, no matter how much she sassed me. She melted into my arms, her earlier nervousness gone. I knew I had to keep her distracted.

If I gave her too much time to think, she might get scared. That was the last thing I wanted. Not just because it would slow down the process.

I just wanted the girl safe and happy, all the damn time.

My girl.

Without even thinking, I had her pressed up against the wall, one thigh hoisted in my hands so I could get as close as possible to her. My other hand was already cupping her breast through her dress. I was hard and ready to blast off. She looked dazed and a little worried when I lifted my head.

I shook myself mentally and slowly lowered her to her feet. I wasn’t going to push too hard. It didn’t matter that I was more than fucking ready. She clearly wasn’t.

“Are you hungry?”

She gave me a sidelong glance, clearly relieved. I groaned inwardly, realizing I’d been right. I was not getting laid tonight. The hotel room had been a mistake. Still, we were alone and it was private. The hotel was far from any club business. And she was here, her pretty blue eyes twinkling at me.

“I want more champagne.”

“Fine. But you aren’t driving home.”

“Fine!”

I shook my head, grabbing a menu and handing it to her. She wrote down what she wanted, and I called, raising an eyebrow at her order.

The girl sure had an appetite. Unless she was just trying to delay the inevitable. We might not do the deed tonight, but she was going to spend some serious time in my arms.

I was patient, but not that patient.

Despite my nickname, I wasn’t made of stone.

I grimaced and adjusted my cock. She smiled at me brightly, clearly not aware that I was in fucking hell. Having her near like this was both the best and worst fucking thing possible for me. Especially a guy like me.

Someone who hid his feelings down deep, where no one could see them.

I never really showed my emotions, so I was good at keeping my painful erection under wraps. I didn’t want her worrying about it or my expectations. This wasn’t a one-night thing. This was a start of something permanent. I reminded myself I had to be patient.

I took her arm, guiding her over to the table by the windows. We were on the eighth floor, high enough to see the state park the hotel was situated near. It was an upscale place that catered to corporate clients and rich hikers. There were even a couple of vineyards in the area. The state park was beautiful and the view from the suite was incredible.

Even a human block of ice like me could appreciate it.

Kelly sighed, her hands on the glass. I came up behind her and kissed her neck. I couldn’t keep my hands off her. My arms slid around her waist and pulled her back against me. Her head fell back as I licked the soft skin of her throat. My hands slid over her dress, finding her breasts and lightly stroking them.

“Hmm . . . oh!”

She gasped as I tweaked a nipple. She was getting hot and bothered. Meanwhile, I was already nuclear.

“Kelly . . .”

I was about to throw all my good intentions out the window when I heard something that hit me like a cold shower.

A loud knock at the door. Whoever was on the other side had a very short life expectancy. I wanted to throttle them for their impossibly bad timing. I held my breath for a minute, hoping they would go away. Another brisk knock followed, followed by an impossibly chipper voice.

“Room service!”

Chapter Six

Kelly

“Motherfucker.”

I stifled a giggle at Cain’s barely audible curse. I had to admit, the timing was bad. I was loving the way he hands felt on my body. It was all over the clothes, so I wasn’t breaking the rules.

I bit my lip, realizing I hadn’t actually told Cain the rules.
