“Right. I’m uptight because I don’t want to get naked with my brother.” I shake my head. “If that’s uptight in your book, then I guess I’m uptight.” I whisk away.

That left an acidic taste in my mouth.

“Let me guess,” Cage says when I return. “She wants you and not the rest of us.”

“Not exactly…”

“What the hell was that all about?” Jesse asks.

“Unfortunately, she’s not signing any new bands or solo acts right now.”

“Really? Even after that stuff she said to you?”

“Really.”

“Then what did she want to talk to you about?” Jake asks.

Jesse rolls his eyes. “She has the hots for my sister.”

I inhale. How exactly do I say this? “You’re partially right.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” my brother asks.

“Trust me. You do not want to know.”

“Yeah…I kind of do.”

“You really don’t.”

“I really do.”

Cage, Jake, and Dragon are listening, their ears perked up.

“Hey, guys,” I say to them, “she’s not signing anyone, but if you’re horny… Give it a shot. She’s ripe for the picking.”

Then I turn to Jesse. “Are you sure you want to know?”

“Yeah.”

“She wanted a threesome, Jess. With both of us.”

I don’t see a look of pure disgusted shock on my brother’s face often, but I see it now.

“That’s not only revolting,” he says, “it’s degrading to both of us. Who the hell would do that?”

“Right?” I shudder. “At least she was honest. She’s not signing anyone right now, which means she was only here to get laid. She could’ve easily made us think she’d sign us if we did the deed.”

“Looks like Cage and Jake may satisfy her need for a threesome.” He gestures.

Selena still stands in the corner. Jake and Cage are smiling, Cage with one hand on her shoulder, and Jake with his arm around her.

“I hope they have more sense,” I say.

Jesse laughs. “Don’t bet on it.”

My phone buzzes in my back pocket.

I catch my breath when I see that it’s Brock.

You rocked it tonight.

Thank you, I start to write, when—

He’s here?

“I’ve got to go, Jesse.” I leave backstage and race into the main room.

Brock sits at the bar, a bottle of Fat Tire in front of him.

“Brock!” I run toward him and launch myself into his arms, nearly knocking him off his stool. “What are you doing here?”

“Seems I was free tonight.”

“You can’t even know how happy I am to see you.”

“I think I know.” He kisses my lips hard.

He tastes like Fat Tire and like Brock himself—all spicy and masculine.

Jesse comes out and saunters up to us. “Brock.”

“Hi, Jesse. You guys were awesome tonight.”

“Too bad the agent in the audience didn’t think so.”

“She thought so,” I say. “She’s just not signing anyone right now.”

“Then why the hell is she here?” Brock asks.

Jesse and I burst into laughter.

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

BROCK

Maybe the two of them are high on their performance. But they’re giggling like a couple of schoolgirls.

“Have the two of you been drinking?” I ask when they finally stop laughing.

“Nope. We wouldn’t drink before a performance.” Jesse signals to the bartender. “But I sure as hell need one now.”

“What’s so funny?”

“It’s not funny so much as disgusting,” Rory says. “The agent is a woman, and she asked me quite bluntly to have a threesome with her and Jesse.”

I wrinkle my nose. “She does know you’re brother and sister, right?”

“Oh, she knows.”

“That’s disgusting.”

“Yes. Extremely disgusting.”

Though an image comes back to me from my college frat days… The time Dave and I had a threesome with a woman. We were totally focused on her, obviously. The two of us had no desire to touch each other in any way. First of all, we’re cousins, and second of all, we’re both very straight males.

I wouldn’t do it again because it was too weird seeing my cousin naked.

But a brother and a sister? That’s repulsive.

“Yeah, I set her straight pretty quickly.” Rory grabs my Fat Tire and takes a drink from it. “Too bad the band isn’t getting an agent out of this, though.”

“We don’t need an agent who sleeps around,” Jesse says.

Rory chuckles. “LA agents probably all sleep around.”

“You’re probably right.” I take another drink of my beer.

The bartender takes Jesse’s drink order.

He looks at Rory. “You want anything?”

Rory smiles at me. “Do I want anything, Brock?”

My groin tightens. “No, you don’t. Let’s get the hell out of here.”

So much races through my mind. Everything we found in Wyoming. My father and how he acted. I can’t figure out if I admire him or hate him for it.

But all of that?

I push it to the back of my mind because I have Rory.

She laughs when I drive up to the Sundown Motel. “This motel? Really?”

“Hey, you told me this is where you were staying.”

“It is. I just figured that…you know…”

“That Brock Steel would put you up in the most lavish Waldorf-Astoria type place in bumfuck Utah? I got news for you, sweetheart. It doesn’t exist.”
